What started as a
trickle of unofficially official shots from Sprint's Q4 pipeline has suddenly become a deluge. Check the LG Rumor, Touch (aka, Vogue), and Blackberry Pearl 8130 (above) all dressed up with Sprint logos and sales-goon positioning points for a Q4 launch. We already saw Palm's Centro, OQO Model 02, LG Rumor and Touch
yucking it up in the wild this morning but this is the first time we've seen the 8130 in Sprint, not
Verizon attire. The 8130 sports a
GPS receiver but no WiFi like we saw in those RIM slides last month yet still packs all the rest of the EV-DO niceties you'd expect. The Touch is EV-DO revision A upgradeable like we heard while the LG Rumor does it's QWERTY thing for the non-Pro crowd. See for yourself in the gallery below.
[Thanks, Stephen]
So does this mean that Verizon isn't getting the Vogue? Because I'm due for a new phone, even though I've got a year left on my contract... and I loves me some CDMA Touch!
Bye bye TMO! I'm coming back Sprint!
Me too! I'm switching by the end of the month. T-Mobile is just taking way to long for a high speed network. And they don't have nearly the variety of phones Cingular has.
I've been hanging around with them for 4 years now. And I really dread going back to locked phone and CDMA. Oh well! Sprint's SERO plan I cometh.
I might be going back to Sprint also. T-Mobile has a few more months to get on it as far as 3G and some new phones. Sidekicks can't keep them in business forever... and my Dash is feeling a little outdated now that the Touch was given some steroids!
Pearl it is.
sprint finally releasing some quality phones!
Isn't that a dressed up LG F9200 that Cingular carried like 2 years ago?
It certainly looks like a gussied up version of the F9200. The music player and MicroSD support are new as is the Bluetooth and the camera is getting a boost from VGA to 1.3MP with viedeo (according to the sheet). Plus the front buttons are slightly different but its still the same damn form factor. I'm still using my F9200.. but only until my contract is up then its hello Pantech C810.
It might be similar to the Cingular phone.... to bad cingular couldn't give it EVDO...
I'm all for the Pearl, and The Touch could be interesting... It's nice to finally have choices on Sprint
Wait, The Centro has the old palm Garnet OS? its media player is just pocket tunes deluxe? jeez,I was hoping for total upgrade of palm, i wonder if this will let you upgrade to a new OS when they update it?
As for Pockettunes, I would say its woefully inadequate for the modern day media capabilities of other OS's. Will they at least give us a reigstered verison of Pockettunes? I spend that much money on a device i see no need to put shareware that cripples its abilites.
I've always been a fan of Palm, but its getting harder and harder to root for them. I guess i'll cross my fingers and wait for the latest Centro review (hint hint)
Ok, I'm confused. Cnet is saying Sprint's Pearl is "aka BlackBerry Pearl 2". Does that mean that it's the new pearl phone with wifi OR GPS, 3.5mm headphone jack, and external microSD?
Or is it the original (year old) pearl, repackaged for sprint?
when does Q4 start?
Since most corporations start their fiscal years on October 1st it could be any time between now and the end of the actual year. The actual last quarter of the year starts then as well. SO your guess is as good as mine. Either way I am gonna have to pay almost full price anyway as I upgraded phones only a year to a year and a half ago with mine or the wifes. Wish we had the iPhone though.
Okay... Am I the only one that is extremely angry with Verizon right now? This is getting rediculous!!! Verizon can't seem to get its act together on any new phone that isn't the Chocolate 2. I am about to jump ship and I don't even mind paying the $175 to be out of this technology "black hole" That I feel like I am in. Verizon has no full QWERTY slider, the Q9m and Razor2 are old dogs with new skins, and apparently Canada is ahead of the curve on anything new from HTC that's CDMA ready.
Where is the open letter to Verizon? Someone at engadget should try to punch them in the face for dropping the ball on the iPhone and get them to quit this whole proprietary mobile web stuff. Verizon, your service is great, but where is the design factor? Where are the new phones? Seriously... ever heard of the term "cutting edge"??? I'm about to say hello to the new AT&T, because dropped call hell seems better to me than a "everyting is 9 months old technology" future.
:-(
The enV is a hell of a lot better than that LG slider Sprint is about to release, and who cares if it's slider vs flip? enV has full qwerty AND unlike the one with Sprint it has EVDO.
its more like bb pearl 1.5
until helio comes out with a touch phone, probly buy sprint network
verizon sucks. razr2 mite hav had a look from me cuz its not on att yet, but they shazzed it up w/ gay os
so if sprint is getting the pearl2, couldnt i buy just the phone and use it on verizon's network since its cdma? id just have to enter in my personal account number or whatever they do to program it when you buy the phone right?
I want all 4
I have beeen dealing with sprint and this HTC Mogul phone they gave me which is the worst phone, but they have agreed to give me the new touch phone when it comes out. They would not give me the release date but they did say that it would be out at the end of the quarter, which would be the end of Sept. So it shouldbe hitting the shelves in the nest week or two.
Do any of these phones have wifi? It's a must and the only option i have right now is the Mogul. :-/
