T-Mobile hits bargain basement with new data, BlackBerry plans

We've always hearted T-Mobile's data pricing (while simultaneously cursing its lack of 3G), but they've somehow managed to make it even better than it already was. Unlimited mobile Internet and T-Mobile HotSpot service now totals just $19.95 a month on top of your voice plan -- a boon for just-unlocked iPhones, we'd say -- while BlackBerry pricing has taken a similar plunge, running just $10 a month for unlimited email on what T-Mobile is apparently positioning as an "entry-level" plan. Bring on the HSDPA 1700, T-Mobile, and we're so there.

Hell to the yeah... hopefully this forces some of the other carriers to lower the pricing on their data plans as well so we can get some decent competition around here....

Good to hear, and some price competition would be most welcome.

But more to the point, hasn't it been about a year said they claimed they were starting their 3G rollout? When we see a status on that, then this will be of real interest.

The only problem with Helio is they directly mention in their Terms and Conditions their data service is NOT intented for connectivity to laptop/PDA/Computer Relay/IP Mainframe type devices. They also limit your data usage to 160MB per month before they claim its "excessive usage". 160MB per month? Ive been through 7GB per month on T-Mobile (whom allows tethering and has TRUE Unlimited data)

I'm not an economist, but I have this suspicion that the cheap data rates and the lack of 3G are somewhat related. I'm always amused by people who say, "I'm glad they're cheap. When are they going to do an expensive network upgrade? I've got my cake, now I'm ready to start eating."

Sorry Gents! This is only for EMAIL. When the handheld registers onto the network while you are attached to this plan the browser icons disappear. (wonder if opera would work if you loaded it on via the desktop??) Although, the Blackberry Unlimited Data and Email plan (OLD BIS) is now 19.99 per month! The huge release from yesterday was that the T-Mobile Total Internet (with Hotspot access) for the Win Mobile side of the T-Mo is only 19.99 now instead of 29.99. It's a steal! I phone owners can use the crap out of the hotspot wifi connect. Also, For you information about the sprint plans.. If you were to buy one of the PDA email devices you are now required to have a business vision plan of 25.00 or greater to qualify for mail in rebates (select devices example 755p.) Blackberries on sprint (with voice) still require the resquisite 39.99 plan but you get BIS and BES ability in this price. Hope that straightens things out..

i had to go into the "plan & services" section of my t-mobile, then click on "add or change services" and then it appeared at the bottom of the list as "total internet & hotspot add-on" with the $19.99 price. You'll need to uncheck your $29.99 service first before selecting the new one or you'll get an error

The plans arent going to be published onine until the 16th. For now you have to use your "My T-Mobile" login if you are already a customer, or find a direct store or indirect agent who can set you up on the new plan.

Someone needs to tell tmobile's customer care reps about this apparently..I just spent an hour on the phone with them to be told that a internet plan + hotspot doesn't exist for $19.99..I even had her log onto the tmobile site and SHOWED her the add-on and she claimed it was a hotspot addon (which is also listed for $19.99)....jeez.

I have that as well, and works fine, but you don't get HotSpot access. It won't work with the iPhone because you can't (yet) change the proxy info on the iPhone. Sometimes you really want wifi access when you're waiting in airports (e.g., Slingbox).

I only $5.99/month for unlimited usage and free push email via mail for exchange and cortado on my E61. I even used it as my primary internet access for a couple of weeks on my home system while waiting on comcast.

I am curious to know, if I have a sidekick2 (and I know the sidekick dosnt have WiFi) if I can add this anyway - because I DO have a WiFi laptop, and being able to use that at hotspots with this new plan, would be a big bonus, and allow me to stick with tmobile at the same time.

i agree the competition is more than welcome. Im sure verizon will follow sometime soon. they're just now catching onto the hot spot craze. and with the new pda's they're about to ship out they should be changing those plans (They're rediculously high and not flexible at all!) STUDENTS for example (LIKE MYSELF)may be using pda's as a notebook and organizer and phone. (notice i didnt say anything about gettin online) we have access to computers everywhere, online access is not essential anymore. htc knows that because they have products with different aims such as being a organizer FIRST and a phone SECOND! so dont say this is a bad idea for t-mobil, they're heading in the correct direction peoples!

bb BIS $19.99 (tethering is allowed, but you must use bb as modem), BES +$10
