Have you read anything about the european version of the iPhone? All reports I have read include it being 3G, and most mention it having a higher storage capacity as well. Apple is not stupid, they wouldn't bother releasing their new flagship device, devoid of 3G, into a market like the EU where it would not sell to its full potential because of that. Europe has had 3G since 2001, not providing that market with a 3G compatible iPhone would be like them deciding to release it in the US as a TDMA device. Read up on the EU release rumors, you'll see that 99% of them include the phone being UMTS or HSDPA capable.
