I'm also not partial to any particular US carrier, but here are some of the features I'd like to have: WiFi, GPS, good coverage in lots of places, push Gmail (a must!), physical keyboard (a must!), a touchscreen, decent battery life and a relatively slim body. Been doing this with SMSChat for S60v3. It also lets you send out timed SMS. So you could send a reminder SMS to a friend at 6:30AM while you are snoring loud enough to keep the building awake.
