Verizon XV6700 out of stock, XV6800 launch imminent?
We haven't the foggiest what's been holding them up here, but the long-outdated XV6700 has finally gone out of stock on Verizon's site, suggesting that the XV6800 -- Big Red's version of the HTC Titan -- might finally be getting ready to go live. Sprint's variant went live ages ago, and let's not forget that we first heard about the XV6800 back during the Triassic, so we think Verizon's got some splainin' to do.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

Yeah... except, wasn't the Samsung i760 due out like umm... yesterday?
Not to sound mean or anything, but won't the XV6800's specifications be subpar by the time it finally launches?
Yes, I wa thinking the same thing. I have no idea why Verizon has such a staggered release date for its PDA....
yup....pretty much! The kaiser is already a generation ahead of the 6800. Verizon's attituted towards its pda users is pathetic. The untimely releases, the ridiculous delays, the lock downs. I paid etf and jumped shit to at&t and couldn't be happier. It is friggin ridiculous! They pretty much spit in the customers face, and then the stupid sheep that are there customers say "thank you sir may i have another".....truly sad.-
@shortfuse,
Not really as there is no other CDMA phone with better specs.
The 6700 is still in stock in my area of the Mid-Atlantic.
ummm....the Mogul...the phone i switched for. one of Cnet's top five phones to have.
the 6700 is still available when i try to add it on VZW's site. even if it is out of stock, why does that indicate the 6800 is any closer? it's been rumored to be released for the past 9 months...
I am guessing that they held off the release to make this the first released Rev. A compatible smartphone?
sorry to burst your bubble but when i enter my zip code [20721 Washington, DC Area] it doesnt show that it is out of stock.. Maybe it is just in a few places. and thejfed is absolutely right.
Far too little, far too late...I switched to ATT. Considering I spend at least $200 a month in cellular fees, I would have thought they would maybe send an email or something, but alas no.
I have one 6700 left in my inventory at my store. Who wants it?
Verizon may suck with their PDA release schedule, but I will never switch to AT&T. In my area, their signal sucks and high speed data coverage is week. Verizon is far better. Bottom line... don't go believing the grass is always greener on the other side. There are ALWAYS trade-offs with cell phone companies.
But yes, Verizon could do much better on the hardware side.
Couldn't agree more....Switched to iPhone for a week and the coverage and data speeds were both dismal...
I went back to my brick that is the XV6700....looking forward to either the 6800 or the i760...which has been on again, off again....
Same here; AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, et al all have dismal coverage where I live and work. Verizon is the only choice for a reliable signal. I carpool with a co-worker who has AT&T and he threatens to throw his phone out the window every day, while my Moto Q never drops a call. So, its a trade-off: cool phones, or usable service. Having the most awesome phone really does no good if you can't make calls on it.
I too must admit..."Its the Network"
Sprints phones are better....Cingular's (I mean AT&T) phones are better but there coverage in my area sucks. I would have jumped ship long ago but the T-Mobile, Sprint, AT&T users I know are always complaining about dropped calls and signal loss.
I ended up with Q9m cuz my phone died waiting for the 6800.
Me too. I wish I could leave Verizon for any other carrier, especially to return to the openness of GSM. But then I hear my friends say, "Oh my phone doesn't work here." I never ever have to say that above ground, and even in some basements and subway stations. If it happens once that's too many times, when I know that with Verizon it wouldn't be a problem.
maybe it's taking VZ-dub longer to cripple the phones than expected.
=P
Wow, are they just now replacing the 6700? I had that phone when I was with Verizon over a year ago and hated it. Random resets, wandering screen alignment and just buggy overall. Luckily I got it for a reduced price after Verizon lied to me about what the BB 7250 could do at the time.. Funny thing is that I hated the 6700 so much that I eBayed it and went back to the 7250. How many updates has RIM done since this phone was released? Laaaaaaaaaazy..either Verizon or the manuf. but just laaaaaazzzzy.
I've been waiting on this thing since last December, and now AT&T is already coming out with the next generation device. Verizon may have the most reliable network, but no one can use it because their devices are so old and dusty. Get your act together, VZW!
I just checked the Verizon site, and its not showing up as out of stock for me
The fact that the XV6700 is showing "Out of Stock" in certain zip codes means nothing. The XV6600 first started showing "Out of Stock" on Verizon's website 55 days before the XV6700 was first available via Verizon's b2b department.
I've been waiting for the i760 -- my verizon rep now says the release date is OCTOBER 18th and around the same time they'll be releasing the VX6800, LG5800 and RIM 8130. Would I bet on that release date? Un... right! Everything about Verizon stinks EXCEPT for the Network.
Can anyone else Confirm this October 18th release on the i760?
Well Its NO longer "out of stock" on the website now....
hmmm..... so now what, oh yeah.... WAIT... =(
Don't get too excited, I mean the I730 has been out of stock and off the website for months, no?
After seeing the xv6700 out of stock yesterday @ verizon's site. I went back today to inquire about the xv6800. Guess what, they just received more stock of the xv6700. Oh, why do you do this to us verizon?
Im a tech for tech vzw and we got the dummy version of this phone two weeks ago and it was said that we were to drop the phone on the 24th of this month..but that didn't happen.im sure we have not dropped it because vzw's has app that they are launching on the pda's called "APP ZONE"(WHICH SUCKS!) Me personally have been waiting for vzw to drop this pda to drop since march when i 1st heard about and seen the pictures of it. Currently there are 3 other carriers that offer this phone and vzw is still testing it for bugs. Vzw has made the biggest mistake in waiting to drop this phone...they dropped the v9m,lg8550,q9m and other various phones with no problem but when they have the opprotunity to come out with something that everyone has been waiting for. Them over testing phones and loading them up with great service but with dumb bumb software is what is making VZW look so stupid in the cell phone world.
Well Mark you must not have been with VZW for long because you would know that the XV6800 will be Revision A capable, and none of the phones you listed are Rev A, including the Q9M. Rev A is worth the wait. Having an IPhone on the Edge network looks stupid to me, but some people would rather have looks over function.
The XV6800 is unlike the other 3 out there. It has more flash and RAM memory. The XV 6800 is Rev-A capable, just like both of the Q's (that would mean the old one as well). I work for VZW and have a customer that works for Microsoft. According to her you can blame Microsoft for all the hold-ups, not VZW. Unlike all the current and past Windows models, which all had different operating systems, all the new WM6 models will be the same. This makes it easier on VZW as well as the customer. Having to worry about updates for only one system makes a lot more sense. Again per the Microsoft emp VZW and Microsoft struck a deal for uni-system on all the phones, the problem came when time to launch. Microsoft didn't hold up there end, they tried shipping them with different systems. It has taken them this long to fix there mistake.
i've work for vzw for over 2 years now.the rev A your talking about will only be able to be used when you tether with the pda and use it like a air. the phone will still use evdo to for the internet explorer feature on the phone. and the point i was trying to make is that is vzw takes its time release to relesae a phone that has been out since last year (across seas that is).why waste your time putting out these rinky dink phones...vzw is very aware of many customers they lost due them passing on the iphone and all they did was release the lg8550 to go against it lol...why not release the 6800 to go against it back in june? And do you know that vzw has been testing this phone since april??? i find it hard to believe that microsoft is the hold up buddy...that would be vzw and like i said before the reason is because they having problems getting this "bs" APP ZONE to work on it...Oh yeah and first i can say that if vzw wants to make anything easier on there customers they would recall the lg8500 and give them updated phone because that may be the worst cell phone ever created...we once replaced it over 30 times in one day earlier this year..all with legit problems...Hunter6797 nice comment but when it comes to talking about vzw's and its svcs..YOU CAN'T TELL ME NOTHING LOL..ITS ALL LOVE THOUGH.
@hunter6797
If both Q's are Rev A capable than they are pretty quiet about it. I dont see any phones in the lineup that state it, but that may be just poor engineering/marketing info because they don's specifically state Rev 0 either. The 6800 though has been confirmed to be Rev A. You can look at the lineup of data cards/usb devices and they will specifically state when they are Rev A capable. Right now there are no Rev A capable PDA's listed for VZW so if you can provide a link from Motorola or VZW that the Q is rev a capable I would appreciate it. EVDO does not automatically mean Rev A, most of the current devices are Rev 0 only. When the 6800 comes out it is supposedly specifically stated as Rev-A which is one of the reasons I will wait for it over getting a Q9M (because as far as I can tell it is only Rev 0 capable). I definitely could be mistaken because I expected to see high profile regular phones like the moto max and razr2 to show up as Rev A for tethering but alas they are just marketed as EVDO and lacks rev 0 or rev A designation in the specs. Either vzw and the manufacturers are lazy with their specs on the devices, or there are only data cards right now that have true Rev A capability, which means we should start seeing a slew of new Rev A specced devices in the near (which is a relative term for verizon wireless) future.
@mark
Guess what, if you are working in a store as a store tech, people don't come up to you to report when their phone is working. You are going to deal primarily with phones experiencing issues. The 8500 was the first run of that phone, just like the Moto Razr V3C was the first run of that Razr. The V3C had many more issues than the V3M. Both of those phones are top sellers which means you are going to see many more than them than say a Samsung. Some store techs get it in their head that since I dont see issues with many Samsung devices, that isn't necessarily reality. And like hunter said, if there was an issue that warranted a recall LG would make that decision, and considering the liberal exchange policy of VZW, it would happen just like it does now, bring in phone, exchange it for a replacement unit.
Mark if your a tech for VZW I feel bad. If the phone can access the Rev-A network, it will do so both in the phones mini-browser and via tether. EVDO REV-A, if your in a broadband coverage area it'll pick it up. Love the comment about the Chocolate too. I'm not arguing against the fact that that phone sucks, but why would Verizon recall it. That would be up to LG, the people who made it. Verizon does what they can and swaps out the phone free of charge in majority of cases. If anyone needs to recall it it would be LG.
This whole wait has been extremely painstaking on the consumer end for the xv6800. As another technician on the PDA end of matters, I see an awful lot of holes in the Microshaft, ahem Microsoft OS. Do I think that the interface is familiar for users? Yes. Is it practical in a reliable sense? No. Any Windows Mobile devices (including that of WM6) are full of holes simply because of the faulty OS. These PDAs are clearly that... PDAs first and phones second. Appzone has become a huge part of the VZW plan for PDAs to be able to access downloadable programs and information wirelessly, however, it has become the main fault in the slow crawl towards release.

Could this be the xv6800 plus others... I still have the xv6600... It's 3rd one and they won't give me the xv6700 so now I'm still waiting for the xv6800. I hope this is it... I heard they delayed it because Sprint has had a lot of problems and verizon wanted to get all the kinks out before we got that phone. Hopefully that's the true case and it will be out this week... Check the link out, I just can't figure out if it's the xv6800; the one on the far right.... take a guess, what do you guys think......
I heard the i760 is due within 2 weeks. I also heard it will be out before the 6800. that's pretty reliable.
The question is, assuming they are both available, which to get?
Chuck, the phones you're talking about are revealed here:
http://www.thefattytalks.com/2007/09/29/engadget-mobile-solves-the-mystery-verizons-juke-pearl-venus-and-voyager-get-outed/
I myself and MANY people I know have been waiting for the 6800 which HTC (which Verizon may carry as Audiovox instead of as HTC), but interestingly enough HTC makes no mention of upcoming CDMA phones (non-disclosure w/Verizon).
This link also discusses the eminent release of the XV6800.

It's nice that you can actually see the Verizon-branded XV6800, but the question on everyones' minds is "WHEN?!"
Now that Verizon has announced the xv10000 Voyager (thier iPhone) for the
holidays, that takes the pressure off them to release another pocket pc
any time soon. The xv6800 ,maybe December or January. A vz rep told me he
had seen a memo with a November release. I wouldn't bank on it.
The tilt by at&t is coming out Friday, another delay on the xv6800. Maybe Verizon should learn something from at&t. The network nice but when at&t can meet or beat that I'll probably jump ship. I'm tired of my phone that is physically done in. I can't get a replacement or do an insurance claim without using my new every two. I think that sucks. Thanks Verizon I appreciate that you want to be free from errors, but I can't get a freaking phone!
Ok, I heard it from the horse's mouth. But this would make it about the 15th time I've heard it, i'm just hoping as much as everyone else that it's actually true this time.... I hear tomorrow 11/5/07, xv6800 is finally supposed to be released for online sales, another 2 weeks before it hits the stores. Will it be worth the wait...too long if you ask me, i'll still get it though and hopefully upgrade at the holidays.
Have spoken to different Verizon reps over the past week, and as of Saturday November 25th the xv6800 is in the "que" of the Verizon employee website for November releases, well I've been waiting sooooooooo long just like all of you and I really hope it comes out soon, as both Sprint and AT&T have had their versions out for a while now. I would have thought that black friday would have been the day as I can't think why Verizon would want to wait as the shopping madness is upon us.
I was just at the Verizon store today - they told me it will be released in stores on December 5, and will be on Verizon's site 1 week prior, November 28.
Just came from the store, the XV6800 is now in their main next phones catalog and the rep told me that once they put it in that, that it should be out within a week or two tops. Anyone have the phone number of that dumb geek in the commercials with the network behind him, maybe he knows date...
it is online at verizonwireless.com
