Verizon isn't kidding around this fall, with four new fashionable phones, a couple of which might divert a few iPhone dollars from archrival AT&T. It's those exact four that Engadget Mobile
got the scoop on last weekend, the Juke, Pearl, Venus and Voyager. A few of the details have changed, but the basic gist is the same. The Samsung Juke is the first "flick" phone to hit the States, and arrives with 2GB of built-in storage, A2DP (which shows up in all these phones) and a VGA camera, and comes in blue, red or teal. Verizon's BlackBerry Pearl is the first Pearl to get EV-DO and a 3.5mm minijack, and also adds Verizon's VZ Navigator service, which is standard across these phones. The Venus slider sports an interesting dual screen setup, with the bottom providing contextual touch controls and the top one acting like all normal-like. Venus, with black or pink color options, is the real fashionphone of the group, and rocks a boring 2 megapixel sensor, but there's a microSD slot for up to 8GB of expansion. Finally, the Voyager (pictured) does it all, with a full screen touchscreen on the outside, and a second screen on the clamshell interior, facing a gargantuan QWERTY keyboard.
V CAST Mobile TV makes an appearance, as does a microSD slot and 2 megapixel camera. All of these phones are supposed to be out by Thanksgiving, but no word on price or exact dates -- though the Juke and Pearl are hitting first, to be followed by the Venus and then the Voyager.
Cool it has safari and ical.............
:P
That Voyager is MINE November come fast
Any Word On Pricing?
the price will probably be close to the iphone.. with a contract without a contract like a prepaid will be more than iphone... i bet. But how about the battery life of this things. Verizon battery life for there products are horrible that was one of the main reasons i moved away from verizon.. i don't know i like my iphone better haven't anything that would make me jut want to give up using it.. if i had to get something different than iphone i would stick with the htc touch.... i hate verizon anyway.. but look for that magic word that says battery life...
How can a carrier be directly responsible for the battery life of phones made by Moto, Samsung, LG, etc.? There are some VZW phones with average battery life, some VZW phones with great battery life. Every phone is different.
them im guessing that motorola and lg phones are horrible in battery but wait i owned a motorola that wasn't on verizon and the battery lasted me 2 days. The carrier does have some kind of part in how long a battery last. Because depending on technology they use the battery is not good. GSM phones do have a better battery life than cdma has.
Like I said, every phone is different. The Moto you had with VZW sucked, and the Moto you had not with VZW was good. My enV can easily last me 2 days. So like I said, let's not make ignorant blanket statements like every single phone with a carrier has bad battery lifes.
BOOSH!!!
People have to try and find something negative about Verizon so why not blame the batteries. How are you going to compare battery life when you cant even replace the battery in your iPhone? Good luck with that.
That thing looks bigger than my shoe.
you must have really small feet if that looks bigger than your shoe
You guys see how thick that phone is? Also why not have the QWERTY keyboard on the touch screen? Verizon is just so dissapointing. If the iphone comes out with a 3g next year I'm gone.
Do some research before you type. There is a virtual keyboard.
You apple and ATT fan boys need to lay off. Thickness of a phone is nothing compared to functionality. This phone is not thick for what it has. The battery is not as long as the iphone, we know that. But i bet you a year from now the battery still holds close to its rating. Unlike apple and their battery problems, it probaly dont work at all. Lets see apple put 3g, navigation, mediaflo removable memory in the iphone then may be we can talk. This phone is what it is, its not trying to be a smartphone unlike the iphone( And the iphone is not a smartphone). I love how it has that prada look and UI, with the EnV functionality.

pwned!
that's all well and good, but WHERE IS THE i760? it really seems like verizon doesn't care about it's smartphone user segment very much and would rather focus on the normal phone consumers... i'm getting tired of this.
I work in a Verizon Authorized retailer and i spoke with my LG rep a couple days ago about the VX10K. He said the price will be very similar to the current price of the VX9900 enV (around $200 with contract). He was POSITIVE that it would be under the 300 mark (with contract). He also had told me the release date which turned out to be correct, so im guess he'll be right on the pricing too.
dude then when does it come out?
Ricky, did your LG rep happen to say if the 10k would require a data plan to go to the web? (With the enV and other phones of this general category, Verizon lets you get by with vCast or even $5/mo Mobile Web plus minutes.)
Also, will the 9900 be phased out, or the price just reduced, or what?
The LG rep didnt want to get into all the details, but i would assume that data will be done like a regular cell phone (no $45 PDA data plan) but at the same time i wouldnt be supprised if verizon took away the $5 mobile web and forced the $15 Vcast for the internet because the $5 web uses your mins as you browse, where the VCast does not. As for the 9900 im sure they will do the same thing there doing with the old VX8500 chocolate, keep it around at a low price point for ppl who want a good phone cheap.
To my knowledge based on recent email activities and trainings, we are not doing away with the 5$ mobile web, but we(VZW) are changing the way that it bills. Mobile web is no longer going to use minutes, it is going to be billed in MB's. The PDA plans are going to be billed in MB's as well, these should be rolling out soon, as far as the exact date I can't remember but mobile web is changing, and will not work in conjunction with vcast when this change is maede.
do u know the release date of the lg voyager
THAT LG IS MINE IN NOVEMBER 2007 I WAS GOING TO BUY IPHONE I WAIT THEN ! I BEEN A VERIZON CUSTOMER FOR 14 YRS I THINK I STAY AND WAIT LG VOYAGER AND PRICING COULD BE AOUND SAME AS TREO 700wx $500.00 WHICH IS WHORTH IT I WILL SAY I BEEN A TREO'S FAN AND I WON MINE PAYING ANOTHER $ 500. FOR THIS LG IF IT GIVE ME ALL I NEED AND I AM LOOKING FOR IT IN ONE PHONE !!
Yeah, and why the heck do we still not have the TyTn aka 6800 when Cingular is weeks away from dropping the TyTNII aka Tilt?
REALLLY thinking about switching.
Already a Voyager fan site going on at http://www.verizonvoyager.org
I doubt it will get as big as the iPhone simply because Apple has built up so much brand equity. Their advertising and marketing is ridiculously effective and people want to buy the iPhone because of the image it will give them. They want to be cool.
But I'm smart so I'll buy the Voyager! hehe
Does it run Windows Mobile 6?
No, and this is a stupid question because this is not a pda phone or a smartphone.
DUDE FINALLY the voyager is amazing!!! i can't wait until it comes out(11/18/07)
touch screen is awesome
mobile tv is amazing
WEB BROWSER!!! holy crap
i'm gonna buy one as son as it comes out!!!!
To all- I have worked for Verizon Wireless for 13 years. We are the best, and most aggressive network in the Nation. Given, you cannot please all, yet Verizon throws billions into the network, and into a customer service focus to ensure satisfaction. The comment about battery strenth on the below Voyager discussion is Manufacturer based, not Verizon based. I do agree that there needs to be a more aggressive focus on the lithium ion battery, and creating a battery to support the constant tech change. Nonetheless, you are foolish if you belive that At&t is better. You are also foolish to spend $600 on an IPhone, cause you will spend another $300 to have the battery replaced, and to resolve billing issues. Verizon Wireless rocks, and always will. And always buy LG....Motorola has gone down the hell in a handbasket route.
The iPhone is 400$. Battery replacement is 79$.
I don't doubt for a moment Verizon has teh best network. I've been with almost everyone ni the last 15 years of having a cell phone and/or a text pager.
Verizon gets service where no others do, such as when I'm 30 miles away from a major highway or a town, in the woods. I've had ONE dropped call in the last 6 months. One.
And you can't please everyone. granted.
But it is rediculous to say you are the most aggressive, when in fact Sprint, also a CDMA carrier, gets new devices out LONG before you. I'm a high volume user. But dang it, provide me with a smartphone that hasn't been out 2 years.
But see with Sprint if you call customer service to much they'll release you. And not to mention the fact that Sprint does get hands very often, but most of them blow..so it cancels itself out. AND ever since Sprint and Nextel got together..and Sprint has been leasing like a bazillion other cellular companies on their towers their service went to shit..at least for my area it did.
Evesix - As a Verizon employee, do you know anything about the xv6800? I really need WiFi and Win Mobile 6. Does Voyager, plus it's three brother new releases, mean they will not be updating xv6700? I would just like an answer so I can make decisions about my next telephone. Kindly, dwf
vzw hasent even been around for 13 years
$ 79 is retarded in terms of replacing a battery. Plus, the competitor was charging an additional fee for shipping (nice At&t...) Verizon Wireless started with 800,000 customers, and now has 61.2 million. They are doing something right.... Most importantly is call quality, which is something lost in this day and age. I guarantee that when one leaves Verizon, they will be back. More push back should be thrown on Manufacturers, NOT wireless carriers. Then again, when you spend 100 million dollars a year on the network, you can only expect the best. At&t and Cingular are a horrific sandbox boxing fight that went wrong. What's next..T Mobile rocking our world?
I've had verizon for nearly 5 years now, and I'm ditching it for AT&T (Kaiser woot). I live in a very densley populated area of Long Island, and no one in my family even gets reception in my house. In fact, we have to walk half way down the block to get a signal. Way to go Verizon. Not to mention I feel duped by buying that dumb Chocolate phone. When I brought it back because the battery only lasted about 2-3 hours, with only about 10-20 minutes of talk time, they just pointed me at the battery rack and told me to buy an "extended" battery, even after their 2 hour test left my fully charged phone dead.
So it's pretty safe to say I'll never buy another LG phone again, thanks.
I have the LG Chocolate as my "business" phone (bosses picked it not me) and I use it constantly in a remote area of California and I have yet to have battery issues, unless I forgot to charge it (which is only every other day). I think either your phone or battery is faulty or you're entering a (believe it or not) area with only analog coverage. That'll eat power like there's no tomorrow.
hands down this phone is not an Iphone, its faster, has a navigation system, 8+ chanels of tv programing, unlimited memory(multiple sd cards), normal keybord that you can really type on ( oh yeah it has a touch sensetive as well), how about bluetooth stereo , removable battery , and you dont have to use stupid i tunes to add music or videos. plus you will get all that Get it now has to offer : backup assistant, mobile email, i am sure it will have song ID , plus Verizon will not try to add more customers by lowering the price in a month, thephone will be released around holidays at a reasonible price. and most important you will be able to add Insureance for about $5 a month which will protect you new cool toy, so go get your Iphone put into the case that will make 2 times thicker so you wont desroy it and have less drop calls, since you cant make any calls- you wont drop any, so all you cingular or at&t(finaly picked the name, i guess cingular sounded like allergy medecine so they went with at&t)fan boys stop hating on this awsome device , you just jelous that you spent top $$$ on your iphone and you cant even go to your local at&t store if you have a problem with it.
WOW that is mad ugly!
haha no wonder LG Electronics was big with K-Mart
you are KIDDING, right?
small touchscreen? yeah that's a real revolutionary feature?
web browser? where have you been? and besides, it's going to be a total POS implementation. Good look squinting at that webpage that will take 20 minutes to load and ever longer to scroll through.
And what the hell is with the clamshell on this? Should have just removed the stupid inner screen and put the QWERTY in a full-length horizontal slider....
Are you just mad that what ever company you are with didnt come up with this phone first??? The touch screen is pretty close to that of the i phone , and web browser...verizon has had that...and it is not going to be a pos implementation. I am a LONG standing verizon customer and have NEVER had any problems. As far as verizon having this type of clamshell...verizon doesnt want to be like the normal clamshell phone or the slider...sliders tend to break...besides that it gives you the typing ability on your phone much like that of a laptop verses the hunt and peck on a normal numeric pad. If you knew about the previous LG VX9900 you would know that it is the same style as this phone but it doesnt have the touch on the front.
As far as verizons service compared to sprint...I am now an employee for sprint and have verizon service so i tend to do a lot of comparing, and as far as service in the nation, sprint is a lot of talk...verizon truely is better...as far as service. I know it may not have service in YOUR area but I am sorry to tell everyone that there is NO company anywhere that has service everywhere...try going to the store to look at a coverage map or go online to the website and use a coverage tool where you can look at your exact address, that is if coverage is your major malfunction. Besides folks...this is just a phone...if you dont like it then fine...dont buy it, that is no reason to come on here and act like a jerk about it. We are all grown!
the voyager is nice, but where the hell is the xv6800! there are alot of people waiting for this phone to come out. i too am considering the at&t tilt, but i dont wanna leave verizon b/c of its outstandng network
The LG vOYAGER PHONE is going to be my future phone in November 18, 2007. I going to be counting the days ! I was almost ready to have to Cell's Companys My Verizon which I been with them for almost 14 years and almost new one (At&t)to buy iPhone good I did not purchase it! WOW ! god I wait it good other wise I will be sorry probably and stuck with 2 diffrent bills and as my hubby say betrayed Verizon (jajaja) he's funny I told him". ok I counting the days, and I am start looking whos going to buy my TREO 700wx which I just buy it about 6-7 months ago. It was my gift for Mothers Day. now the LG is going to be my Xmas gift ahead time NICE ;)- bye
Why the Samsung SCH-i760 is the FAR better/cheaper choice.
1. i760 has built-in wifi. Wifi = surf the net FOR FREE w/out paying for data on Verizon's network.
2. It's not mandatory to have a data plan for the i760 (I'm sure you can surf the net fully and send emails via the browser). The Voyager does not need one either, but you'll have to pay for data when using its browser and email. So if you're upgrading your current phone to the i760, you can keep your current voice-only plan.
3. In the long-run, if you get the Sling Box and installed the software onto the Windows Mobile 6 on the i760, you can watch all your cable channels via the cable from your house through the net(wifi!!!) from anywhere in the world VS $25/month for the VZW TV premium service from Verizon and you only get a a few channels.
Don't get me wrong the Voyager is a pretty sweet phone but it'll end up costing a lot for data and watching Verizon TV on it if you want that option. Unless someone thinks otherwise, please fill me in on why the i760 isn't the better choice..
Unless you spend you're whole day where free wifi is available, that is a terrible option. Give me EV-DO anyday, it's worth the price.
Plus since the Voyager is not a PDA/smartphone it will only require $15 VCAST for using the mobile web.
Sorry to burst your bubble Richy but maybe you should actually know seomthing about verizon before you go opening your mouth. For the 10k its not a smartphone so you dont have to pay the data charge plus this phone has 2 completely different ways to use it obviously better than 1
I just noticed... They forgot the CLOCK on the front screen.. You know how many times a day i look at my phone to see the time?
Guess it's time to get a new watch!
One question...how do you know this phone is coming out on the 18th...because that is a sunday. I work @ vzw and our phone pricing usually come out mondays along with any new phones. So maybe it be out on the 19th instead...or maybe not im thinking the 26th for because black friday is that week.
iM Diggin this phone more then the 6800 or 760...i have the 9800m rite now and im on the emailing list for when this phone is released. This is far from being a iphone but the keyboard makes it more flexiable then the iphone i think. you can extend the life of the battery by getting a extended which on the iphone you your unable to chahge the battery. $79 compared to 39.99-49.99 for a battery...you tell me whats the better buy. tv,video, exspanable up 8gb's of memory, html brower has improved a great deal,mp3 player is still good to use....they only question is will verizon promote this phone like they did with the chocolate?????
Must not read VZWeb and Infomanager a lot then, the preorder campaign information has the release date and preorder dates for each phone.
