Let the hive mind of Engadget get that for you.
"I've found myself using my PC for a lot of conversations lately, and I'm also considering recording a podcast to share with anyone who will listen. There are tons of USB headset / microphones out there, and I'm hoping someone has some solid recommendations based on experience. I'll consider both headsets and standalone mics, by the way, but I'd like to keep the bill under $100 if possible. Help!"
I had a pilot friend make phone calls on their phone all the time, worked fine, even at altitudes above typical commercial flights. 'I'm at 39,000 feet! Aren't I cool'. The supposition wasn't that passengers wouldn't get a signal, but that the phone would pick up too many towers, and the phone companies billing systems couldn't handle that.
I'd really like to think that, rather than prohibit use of technology because it *might* bother someone, people would be mature enough to limit voice calls, and use SMS instead.
You've obviously never been on a budget airline flight then...
