Sprint announces "affordable" LG Rumor
Don't be fooled by the Rumor's midrange appearance -- Sprint's positioning its brand spanking new QWERTY dumbphone as an entry-level device with a price to match. Features of the long-rumored (pun intended) LG handset include an integrated POP3 email client (beware the slow 1xRTT radio, though), microSD expansion, media player, 1.3 megapixel camera, Bluetooth, Sprint Navigation, integrated access to Facebook and Xanga, and a pair of numeric and slide-out alphanumeric keypads. Get it in silver or black / blue late this month online and in Best Buy locations -- Sprint stores start stocking it on November 4 -- for $79.99 on contract after rebates.

Trying not to step on the EnV's toes I see.
Did Cingular (AT&T) have a similar device out a couple of years ago which didn't sell well?
Cingular did two of these - the LG 9100 and 9200. And yes, they sold like air conditioners in Alaska.
hey ill take it. i have to stay with sprint but i need a QWERTY phone and the blackbery's, treo's, and the rest are too confusing and costly. i say its about time and thank u!
this looks like a toy compared to the multifunction powerhouses such as the V and enV
haha no one uses xanga anymore
NO THANKS!! How can they make a phone without EVDO?? Keep that 1xRTT crap!! Just charge an extra $20 for the phone at $99.... GEEZ!
Beast nice...Sprint will be rockin' WiMax in a couple of weeks...
Sprint killed this phone. No EVDO and poor screen resolution with a poor camara that has no flash.
But where's the EVDO...I have an a900 and its a great phone (short of battery). But how can I upgrade to a new phone if theres no phone that really competes with it! Centro is middle of the line, the LG Rumor has no evdo (there goes surf'n the web), and that leaves the pearl 2 for me to upgrade too! Sprint your killing me!
You want a Muziq or Razr2.
You want a Muziq or a Razr2, those are the best phones now that the m610 is dead.
What happened to the LG LX260? I read earlier in the year that Sprint was coming out with the LG LX260 in the 4th quarter. The Rumor looks similar, but the LX260 is a better looking phone. So is the LG Rumor the phone we've been waiting for and not the LX260? Also the LX260 is said to have stereo bluetooth, does the Rumor?
the rumor is the lx260. it has all the same specs, sprint just hasnt released every detail. and looks-wise, they made the buttons look a little different from the lx260 to the rumor
Would an upgrade to EVDO be possible through firmware? Or is it entirely different hardware? It's a shame, I am really interested in this phone.
This is the closest sprint is going to get to the helio ocean. it even has (sorta of) Ultimate Inbox. Its a slider, has direct access to myspace (among others), GPS navigation, competitive price, and microSD up to 4GB (same as the ocean from what i remember). cool.
funalllly!!!
ive been waiting for sprint to come out with a texting fone and ppl stop hating its the closest sprint could get. just make the bestof it if ur already in a contract. and its doesnt look like a toy...ok maybe a little
For the person that recommended the LG Muziq, DON'T WASTE YOUR TIME! It is the most worthless phone I have EVER owned! I just called last night to have Sprint switch me to the Rumor from this hunk of junk! The reviews I have read are positive and the tech at my local cell store said it was a very nice phone as well. Not to mention it is cheaper than the Muziq is!
Just got this phone and I love it! Honestly, people... it's a PHONE! If you seriously want to surf the web go on your computer! This phone is great. Calls are clear, texting is a breeze and the web really is not very slow like people expect it to be!
This phone seems very nice for someone who just wants to text and make calls.
I got one a few days ago, but now Im having problems with it rebooting on me constantly. Sometimes it gets stuck in a reboot loop. Finds service, then reboots... Started with using sprint navigation. It was a really nice phone. Very addicted to facebook, and support for gmail. Its really cool.
Just got one delivered today. Was looking for a basic phone that I can text on with a full keyboard - and it's small, inexpensive, has a basic camera where you can save the photos to a micro SD (rather than paying for Sprint's online phone service), and it plays music to boot if you forget your ipod. If you want to pay $300-$500 for a a cutting edge phone along with expensive monthly data plans to surf the web, get your emails on your phone, and basically do a lot of computing on your phone, then get a blackberry or a treo or whatever. If you want a phone for talking to people and want to text without the annoyance of trying to type on a numeric keypad - then this phone is great.
Cingular'S Version of this phone sucked big time i had it for while and it always dropped my calls even though i ahd all my bars(signal), but I changed to sprint and i got this phone(Lg Rumor) and i haven't had a problem since. Besides it makes txt messaging much more easier.
Just for all of you thinking of buying this or already have this phone "BEWARE" there is a major glitch in this phone. It has something to with shutting down and hitting a wrong key and "WHAM" all your contacts, pictures, texts and whatever else you have on this phone is absolutely wiped out, also, the phone will lock up and is now unfixable according to Sprint.
If this happens to you as it did to my daughter after three weeks of owning it, all you need to do is go to a Sprint service store and they will write a ticket up for service and repair but it can't be repaired so they have to upgrade to a new one, which they dont have right now because they are on a national recall for what they say could be up to 2 weeks for the new ones, or they have to upgrade to the next best thing which is the LG Muziq for free.
Do not let them tell you any different I just got done doing this for my daughter and she has a new LG Muziq at no extra charge.
