If you had any doubts about Microsoft's ability to
innovate in the mobile user interface department, here's a new patent application to mull over. Titled "Extensible Filtered Lists for Mobile Device User Interface," the documentation spells out details for improving the way mobile users interact with the data on their devices. Apparently, the app concentrates on arranging information in "groups or lists," each of which can "include multiple items that provide access to data or tasks from multiple applications." Essentially, these customizable lists (more pictured after the break) would allow users to "quickly access relevant content such as commonly used data or tasks," and moreover, it was noted that the items could be "dynamically updated based upon changes in the underlying data or services provided by software applications." Wow. A mobile interface similar to many developed years ago and one already on the market. Way to be ahead of the game just like you were with the Zune! Another Apple killer!

It's about bloody time for them to update the UI for Windows Mobile. The UI for PocketPC hasn't changed significantly for years, since PocketPC 2002, really. Same goes for the Smartphone variant.
The interface certainly does look like an improvement over the clunky one they use today, but we'll see how it turns out. It looks like they're taking a cue from the Zune interface, really.
This would be great - The functionality of a Windows phone with the eye candy of an iPhone - I could get on board with that!
Simplicity from Microsoft next we will be able to turn lead into gold after all. I actually enjoy WindowsMobile far more than Palm OS (I have owned many Palm OS devices) and despite being a MAC user I see no benefit of the iPhone, its price or paying full price for the privilege of limited storage space and no control over what I want on my phone. Way to MS and keep on truckin.
is this seriously patent worthy? The language seems so generic that its laughable. "groups or lists"?? Are you kidding me? I'm all for improving the steaming pile of crap that is WindowsMobile interface but to be granted a patent on that? Something is seriously wrong in the US patent office..
