The N95 has a nice feature set, but unfortunately it doesn't live up to those specs. Phones like HTC's TyTN II wipes the floor with N95 anytime, except for the camera.
Where does it fall short, I'm curious...?
In pretty much all areas except for the camera. From the specs this should be a 8 or 9 out of 10 type of phone, but if you use it you will quickly feel that this is more like a 6 or 7. I used it for a week, but I recommend you to go to a Nokia dealer and try it. My friend have had it for about 2 months, and he agrees. There is just something underwhelming about this phone. I suspect a lot has to do with the Symbian OS, but it is more of a general feeling after having used this phone. I switched to a HTC TyTN II and it feels like it is in a completely different league. The only thing that is better on the N95 is the camera, but I don't worry too much about that as I have both a compact and a DSL digital camera that blows any mobile camera out of the water.
Are you talking about the old N95 or this new 8GB version?
Because the larger screen and increased ram do make a large difference.
Dont you think HTC's screens are terrible? Only 65k colors and you cant see the screen in sunlight.
The only thing is the camera?? If you are doing a comparison then list the features. It is one thing to say the OS on the phone is bad in your second post, which may be true. But saying the only thing is the camera, that's not quite good enough.
Al, I had the new N95 (from the U.S.) while my friend had the older version (Europe).
The HTC TyTN II screen isn't perfect, but tolerable for my use. I was considering waiting for E-Ten's Glofiish M800, but I needed something that satisfied my requirements quicker and could not wait. Check out the M800 if you're considering a phone and haven't commited yet, it looks good on paper...well, so did the N95...but it wasn't for me... ;-)
ximan, yes --the only thing I feel was better on the N95 was the camera. I am not doing a comparison, I just gave an example of an alternative that I find better. There are likely others too (that I would find better). I would not be surprised if E-Ten's Glofiish M800 is better than both the N95 and TyTN II, but that is not based on hands-on experience (not even sure if it is available yet, I think it is next month on these shores). I did not say the OS is bad, Symbian OS is a heck of a mobile OS, so read my post again (or maybe I need to be more clear in how I articulate myself :-). What I hinted at is that maybe this incarnation of the OS isn't up to the task on such an ambitious phone.
I don't see how me saying that only the camera on the N95 is better than on HTC TyTN is not good enough...you can argument against it if you want, but my opinion still stands. :-) I would like to hear if there are features or functionality on the N95 that you think is better than on TyTN II, because I just express my opinion but would like to hear others too.
I am not getting you at all. I've had the original N95, and my only complain was its fit and finish which has now been taken care of with the new N95 8gb. It's not a perfect phone, but there is nothing disappointing with its performance at all. Why? What feature of the N95 that totally made this phone so disappointing for you? The only thing I find disappointing with the N95 is browsing the web, but I find browsing the web disappointing with ALL CELLPHONES in general anyway. I would ALWAYS leave that chore to my laptop. Why? What does your HTC do that totally makes the N95 so disappointing? Does it call your contacts before you even dial their numbers? Does it type your text message for you even before you start typing, and it knows exactly who you're going to send it to? If your HTC phone doesn't do those things that I've mentioned, then I don't think your complains about the N95 are at all valid.
