Rogers brings HSPA to 22 Canadian markets

Just about a year after its initial, extremely limited rollout in Ontario and a few months of soft launching across the lands, Rogers has announced that the switch has now officially been flipped on its HSPA hardware in a solid 22 Canadian markets. Cities fortunate enough to make the cut include Vancouver, Winnipeg, Regina, Ottawa, Montreal, and Quebec City among a smattering of others. The carrier's official branding for its 3G services is "Vision" -- a curious homage to Sprint's EV-DO network in the US -- though Rogers gets the crown for the cool factor here thanks to its true video calling capability, the only carrier in North America to offer the feature (ahem, AT&T?). Given the fact that Rogers is careful to call the network "HSPA" (as opposed to "HSDPA") we imagine high-speed uploads are in the cards, too. Bonus![Via the::unwired]
Yea, that's all great and all, but who can afford to download data that fast when 100mb is $100?
Actually, they're getting a little better now as you can get 1gb for $65.
Bell Canada has the ONLY unlimited data access in Canada at a decent price, but it's still expensive at $75/month. Virgin offers $10/month unlimited web, but only through their handsets.
Until Rogers offers unlimited data for a reasonable price, all the mobile technology in the world is meaningless.

Just remember that the unlimited data is not for cell phones but is for PC internet cards (At least that's what I think) It still stands that there exists no current plan that offers unlimited data to customers.
Wait wait wait, canada has cell phones? All I saw when I went to vancouver was hot chicks, didnt notice any cell phones. Must be something wrong with my eyes.

The best part is they moved their 3G from 1900MHz to 850.
3g is now everywhere!
And Vision it's the name for video calling not for the 3G network...
According to Rogers' press release, that's not the case.

Curious homage my ass. We also have Telus "MyFaves". Our carriers are just too lazy: "why should we have new ideas when we can just take them from the US carriers?"
Canada cell phone service sucks. On the upside, we have very good DSL resale regulations. Take that, victims of Comcast!
Am I the only one who noticed that your "smattering of others" includes Kitchener/Waterloo - home of RIM? Maybe that's why they've been so long in getting an HSDPA device to market - they don't even have it at home!
