Palm Treo 800w revealed?
Are we staring at the new Treo 800w? We obviously know what's up with the Centro and the 500 (namely the 500v), so the only missing ID in that lineup is the 800, successor to the 700-series flagship throne. Well, if this thing is the 800w we do kind of hope Palm tosses that fish back. Rearranging the WinMo buttons and giving the phone a more industrial, geeky look does not a greater Treo make, so unless this thing is like half as thin as current-gen devices (which it won't be, Palm seems pretty dogmatic about keeping its devices thick), it'll just be more of the same.

I don't care what it looks like. If it doesn't have wifi (and at this point, HTML browser is getting to become a new want) 3g, and gps, then no product is really worth having.
Thick devices can sometimes be ergonomic. Don't write something off just because it is thick.
That's what she said.
that also goes for people =)
The latest info we have on the 800w is it *does* have Wifi, a 320x320 screen and EvDO RevA. All else is up in the air at this point...stay tuned.
This is just a mockup image from a meeting between Sprint & Palm, so don't put too much weight on all the image details...they're quite subject to change.

320x320 and WiFi may tip me over. If it has a built-in GPS receiver and comes to GSM countries then I am already sold.
I don't know why companies keep making new phones. Everyone knows that the Iphone is the best phone ever and everything else just sucks.
*Sarcasm*
uhhh.. it has the 2 soft buttons, so it's gonna be a "smartphone" and not a touch screen pocket pc? bleh CRAP!
It is clearly a touchscreen device...all WM devices have soft keys, silly.
can someone please tell me what the heck is goin on? in a few months the jesus phone its goin to have one 1 year of being introduce and and the rest of these dum asses just keep making the same shiety touch screens, multi touch is the word dum asses, and then they wanna talk about how the iphone does not have 3G, guess what in a couple of months it will and the rest will keep making the same 15 year old + touch screen models, i really dont know but the jesus phone its looking better and better every day and being version 1.0 it really puts alot of companies to shame really
Ahhh*fanboi*chuuu!
name 1 medical app for the geez(already)iphone, wich may not include watching er on it, or maybe vnc like app so I can reach my pc at home, or any other useful app.
The top ten app list for the iphone is led by "cookboks" I mean c'mon! and don't say they will come, cuz palm 3d party developers have been at it for years and years so catching up don't sound so optimistic.
And yeah I would certainly like a bigger screen on my next treo, but engadget is already "killing" it and it hasn't surfaced for real
Apple patented the hell out of their multitouch design, son anybody trying to imitate it so blatantly will get sued for who know how many m/billions. If you take a look back at MAcworld 2007, that was one of Steve Jobs main points about the iPhone; how much they were protecting all of the new technology that they had developed for it. Palm just can't come along and copy it, or just create a new type of multitouch system in a couple of months without years of prior R&D. They may come out with something years down the road with some sort of multitouch, but for now, the iphone will be the only one like that, and the Treo will be stuck with the same, less cutting-edge technology.
At least it doesn't have a HUGE antenna!!! And the 320x320 screen will make finding programs that much easier ... WiFi is a must in my opinion, what's the point of making a device with our WiFi??
.....it'll just be more of the same.
Just like your website.
Thick is relative. My thick, your thick, their thick, is all different.
WiFi
GPS
3G
or
WHO CARES.
If it's going to be so thick, at least have it be a slide out keyboard so the screen can be bigger.
Thick? Maybe. I beleive the Treo 755 is the thinnest touchscreen device on the market with a full keyboard. It is easy to be thin without a touchscreen. Only the iPhone is slimmer with a touchscreen.
Umm... not it isn't.
THIS IS WHY I HATE VERIZON. THERE ABOUT TO LAUNCH THE TREO 755P WHEN THEY COULD HAVE POSSIBLE LAUNCHED THE NEW TREO 800W. WHY CANT THEY GET THERE ACT TOGETHER AND PUT OUT A PHONE THAT WILL TRY TO COMPETE WITH IPHONE.
In this post: http://blog.treonauts.com/2007/10/treo-800w-first.html one can actually see that the Treo 800w will much more closely resemble the small form factor of the Palm Centro with its full mini QWERTY keyboard and a high resolution square screen.
Cheers, A.
Dear OneTrickPony, er, Palm,
How many more candybar/brick thumboard phones are you going to make?
Please take a look at the proposed i-mate ultimate family of phones.
Do you see all the different form factors?
Do that.
Thanks.
Does anyone know when the 800w will be released from Verizon? Almost bought the 700wx until I heard about this and canceled my order.
All I want is what I already have on my 700wx, but a little more. Touchscreen and EVDO are musts to keep.
In order of importance:
WinMo 6 not 5 - the current pic on here looks like 5
Bigger non-square screen
WiFi
And maybe a little more RAM :)
wow, I hear talk of buttons, girth, and industrial geekyness but not one mention of specs or rumored specs yet the phone is being slammed
What about a GSM/UMTS version? Any news?
Any plans for a 800P? I have been a loyal Palm OS user since the Visor Deluxe and want to resist shifting to Windows Mobile (have heard nothing good about it). My current 700P is fine but it's sluggish with Good Technology and memory needs an expansion...
When is Palm going to wake up and smell the customers? They need a device with the same or similar functionality as the Nokia N95 to take this market on. 5 MP camera, integrated GPS, FM radio; Come on Palm, get to it! We're waiting to buy!
The funny thing is they -at Palm- think a high end phone that can't do proper video calls (no front cam) will survive in today's market.
Too bad. I love treo's QWERTY keypad so much. It is by far the BEST one-hand qwerty on the market. But the phone is really deficient in every other way. Too bad.
So it's driving me crazy that I can't get a straight answer. I keep hearing BOTH things: 1) that the Treo 800w has already been released as the Palm Centro; and 2) that a real 800w will be released in Q1 or Q2 of 2008. Anyone know the real story? I'm dying to know!
