The T-Mobile Shadow, October 31 for $149.99
Wing who? T-Mobile today has announced the long-rumored Shadow, a Windows Mobile 6 Standard device that looks not just better than its Wing stablemate, but arguably better than just about any comparably-equipped smartphone on the market today. Besides the "slick, slider design" and a juiced version of the standard Windows Mobile 6 UI, the Shadow features a rotating jog dial front and center, 2 megapixel camera, WiFi, and a new version of T-Mobile's myFaves interface allowing users to call, email, text, or MMS the peeps in their "fave five." Like what you see? If you do, good, because it turns out this is just the first in a whole line of upcoming Shadow-branded phones for the carrier -- a line that'll be focusing on multimedia connectivity and slanting the work / life balance a little more to the "life" side than some of HTC's and T-Mobile's other smart devices (ahem, Wing, we're looking straight at you). Grab the Shadow starting this Wednesday in "sage" or "copper" for a surprisingly reasonable $149.99 on two-year contract.

im getting a shadow
Why all the comparisons to the wing when the wing is a WM6 Pro device (touch screen and it has a full qwerty) when this is just WM6 standard and it lacks a full qwerty. Different devices for different people with different needs.
(But feel free to crucify Tmobile for the wing anyways, I just don't get the context here)
3G please?!
Don't make me run to AT&T...
When will T-mobile get rid of the Wing and give us a Kaiser/Tilt comparable Pocket PC (WM6 Professional)? The Wing's Processor speed is half of the Kaiser/Tilt, No GPS!, only 2MP camera, and no tilting screen.
Hey, I don't mind waiting for 3G, can't afford internet acccess other than Wi-fi anyway, well, maybe T-zones, but please T-mobile, give me my toys! I need to be able to run PPC apps, and Shadow won't do that! It would be nice if they enabled the second camera on the Kaiser (and one-up ATT as well, since the Tilt version lacks it)so that you could do real Videophone with Skype, but I guess that would take 3G.
My contract is up and I want an upgrade, but I don't want to settle for the Wing (and a prayer)!
am i the only one who has noticed that all of the t-mobile promo pictures of this phone show a Hotspot@home icon on the screen, yet this phone supposedly doesnt support that service, and that icon is missing in the engadget hands-on photos?
perhaps a pending update? or a screw-up in the pr department?
Its not a hotspot@home icon, its a hotspot icon. Its in all the pictures because the phone has wifi and T-Mobile offers a data package for $19.99 that includes Hotspot access.
I have the SDA and the $19.99 plan and ive never seen that icon on my screen when using a hotspot. isnt that what the wi-fi status indicator is for on the right by the battery meter? or is that a new feature of WM6?
no big deal even if it doesnt have the chance for that service... i'll just use skype instead when im at home :D
Connecting to WiFi doesn't necessarily mean you are connected to a HotSpot. If you go to a HotSpot location, turn on the WiFi and then select the T-Mobile HotSpot connection then you will get that HotSpot logo.
Well on the shadow at least. Don't know what phone you are using.
Could really use this
i just got the shadow for my birthday, 2 weeks ago, and I returned the phone within the 14 day return limit. It is slow and freezes. I set up my email and was able to receive but not send them. Also every time I signed into AIM and went to send an IM it said I wasn't connected to the internet! Then every time the phone goes into lock mode it turns off the wireless internet. With my sidekick 3 i was connected 24/7 no problems. DO NOT I repeat DO NOT get this phone.
