Qualcomm chipset shortfall expected to hurt HTC in the pocket
Qualcomm's a little down on its luck right now -- its legal luck, anyway -- and needless to say, we wouldn't want to be a company relying on its goods right now to be able to turn a profit of our own. That's exactly the situation HTC apparently finds itself in according to Taiwan's Commercial Times, expecting to book about 38.5 percent less revenue in the first fiscal quarter of '08 than in the fourth quarter of this year thanks to a supply of Qualcomm chipsets that falls well short of HTC's needs. HTC expects to receive about 70 percent of the CDMA and WCDMA silicon that it needs, ultimately affecting phone shipments to both the US and Europe. The only thing better than a delayed phone is a released phone that's in impossibly short supply, so this should be a fun few months coming up here.[Via Just Another Mobile Phone Blog]

Oh wait, how about HTC worries about actually getting drivers to work with these Qualcomm chips (aka TyTn II(?
What's wrong with the HTC drivers? Fill me in.

Check that out for the details of whats wrong with the drivers, its a real pain and neither HTC or Qualcomm have made any noticeable comment on the matter.
I see what you mean now. The HTC Mogul and HTC Touch, on Sprint, at least, lacks the driver as well and video playback is very choppy on Direct Draw playback.

yes, HTC can go fuck themselves and will never have another .01 of my money until they fix these problems...im tired of buying HTC products that have the hardware and lack the support.
WTF.. why are we paying out of ass for HTC shit?
and trying to do research for to develop or find our own drivers and shit.. why can't they get shit right ?
Ok.. I use my phone for work but some times nice to use camera WITH NO CHOPPY Bull#$%! camera useless ..
video play back and camera unacceptable ! HTC got back to me on that through email.. how helpfull .. hahahahah they told me to do hardreset .. hahahaha.. how in the hell that going to help me? I done that already ! and bunch more trying to figure this out but HTC never got back after hard reset comment.. hahaha they could say .. hey hey hey there.. calm the fuck down.. we got your money and thats all there is to it.. so now you can go f your self..
wtf
Any chance of Engadget asking HTC for a response over the ongoing video drivers situation? I know its not your job to act as middlemen for user support questions but you guys have a far better chance of getting a half decent response than the users have had so far!
HTC TYTN II has some serious issues with the video playback and the camera. HTC needs to pony up some money or whatever to get this working. LG KS20 which uses the same chipset shows what the chipset if capable of.
I'm also very interested in the video driver issue.
Two things that caught my eye with my TyTN II was the business card scanner and the 3d/video acceleration.
As of now there's no HW accel and the business card scanner isn't available in my region "yet" and they have an update for us Scandinavians "soon".
The Tilt was my first Pocket PC purchase, and will probably be my last. I love the customizations, but the whole reason for having the phone was to be able to take advantage of the hardware, and that isn't happening. My Sony W330i was faster with drawing menus and Java games than this thing. It's a waste of time-- I could have purchased a Nokia and known what I was getting.
I should have bought an E90 or N*, not the Tilt.
HTC should fix the driver issues and make us all happy. What a powerful phone/PDA and video is choppy? Come on. Fit is already and let's put this behind us.
I have a new HTC Touch. What a great phone! So many positive things. But it's SLOWWWWWWWWWWW. I touch "Contacts" and need to wait a second for the list to appear. My 3 year old Sony was 10 times as fast. When I press the "hard button" to end a call, it takes up to 8 seconds to return me to the Today screen? Is this normal for a "smart phone?" People who look at my phone ask me why it's so slow.
