Rogers launching Sony Ericsson K850i?
We've heard rumblings -- yes, "rumblings" plural -- that Rogers is poised to launch Sony Ericsson's Cyber-shot K850i by the end of the first quarter. With its lovely 5 megapixel camera, xenon flash, trick keypad lighting, and HSDPA, that's just fine with us if it pans out, and we're guessing there are more than a few Rogers customers who'd agree. Even better, we have some numbers to pass along: rumor has it that the phone'll run $199.99 CAD (about $199) on a three-year contract, and Rogers will do ya the favor of throwing in an 8GB memory card to boot.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

meh who cares?
people who are gonna buy high end phones here, usually buy them unlocked and unbranded.
sweet, im picking one up as soon as i can, on a 3 year contract probably (Why not? if i feel like upgrading later ive already got the service i want... )
mmmm 5.3mp glory :D
I really like my K850i. I switched from the first gen N95. I'm thinking of going back to the N95 in the 8gb version.
There are little issues w/ my phone that I don't for- mostly the lack of software to enhance it's functionality &, strangely of all, the *lack* of both a charging port & a headphone/out port as listening in the car & charging isn't that easy.
Eh?
You do realise that all SE chargers have a pass-through port that allows you to plug other things in at the same time...
i think the only chargers that come with the "pass through" port are the ones from europe or asia... correct me if i'm wrong. i've seen my friend's charger with it from hong kong but i've not seen one here in north america.
tho i painfully wish for one as well. =(
lain- you're right, but I've found the 3.5mm cable from SE is a tight fit, but another problem is that Audible has "pops" that happen every 45 seconds to 1 minute. I can't get it to go away & it's on virtually all recordings. I think it's the buffer.
Also, using an 8gb card is painfully slow. 4gb was nearing bad, but if you really load all 8gb you wait & wait for the albums/artists/podcasts to load.
It is 199.99 on a 3 year unlimited vision(3G) mobile internet plan. Without a data plan its 299.99. But with an 8GB card..thats a bargain!
3 YEARS of expensive monthly payments is worth saving $100-$200... $5/month...I don't think so.
It's too bad most customers don't fully understand the value of their 3 year commitment to a carrier. It's WAY WAY WAY more valuable than the carriers give credit for.
You want me to sign a 3 year contract (with data, fees, and taxes that's $70-$100 a month), offer me at least $1000 of stuff at sign up.
The K850i supports Memory Stick Micro (M2) and Micro SDHC, interchangeably... So I'm afraid Memory Stick Duo just won't work!
yeah that memory stick duo has to be a typo.
but canada getting it before the u.s.??? dang... that's a heartbreaker. i for one am waiting to get my hands on a k850i. please at&t grant me my one wish! =D
im moving to canada!
Thanks guys, it was indeed a typo - fixed.
Chris
I can confirm the above information. Phone is slated to launch in retail stores as early as February 1st.
Almost definitely going to pick one up when its let loose :D Was considering the older cybershot but figured id wait for this a bit (dont have long, current phone is on its last legs :P)
Woohoo 5.3mp goodness :D
this phone is extremely buggy. if anyone is planning on getting one, i suggest you try before you buy
The article says "rumor has it that the phone'll run $199.99 CAD (about $199) on a three-year contract"
What would you expect the price to be for just the phone?
For me, being a Roger's customer already it is a no-brainer. In addition to the $199. CDN, unlimited web browsing is a flat $7. a month. Of course, they are offer addditional extras such as MoibTV (live tv), VOD, Music store etc.
I can get say, a 150 Canada One rate including 150 minuutes.
Right now, I pay $45. for my Blackberry plan for 150 local minutes and only 4 mb of data.
The caveats on the %7. a month browsing preclude using a non-Rogers certified unlocked phone.
Am I misssing something or is this not a good deal?
