AT&T wireless data outages hit the Midwest, other areas
We're getting reports from all over that AT&T customers are having trouble with 3G and EDGE data. A majority of the complaints are coming from the Midwest / Chicago areas, where things seem to be down entirely, but we've also heard from folks as far away as Florida. Team Engadget hasn't hit any snags in New York or Vegas where we're currently situated, but let us know if you're having troubles wherever you might be -- and what color crayon to use for this fancy "threat level" printout we've got pinned to the wall.[Thanks to everyone who sent this in]

That's a bit disconcerting...
I called 'cause I was having trouble connecting to the internet with my N95 and they mentioned some "technical difficulties". What I found very strange though, was that the CSR requested my device's serial number... and I foolishly gave it away. I asked if they would use that to lock my phone (since I bought and have been using this device for over seven months as an unlocked phone) to which they replied that the number is only used to have it on record and to properly send "updates" to my device and that they would send a txt message when the data network is up-and-running again. Should I be worried about this as well? I apologize for veering off-topic.
Here in downtown Denver, calls work fine but data access is gone on my N95(3G) and W580i(EDGE).
Javier,
Yes you should be very worried. Not only will they lock your phone for AT&T, but by having your serial number they will be able to deny all services and flag your account for you using "customer-supplied equipment". Big mistake.

Ha. Nah dude. don't worry. How could they 'lock' your phone with only a serial number? They need considerably more than that. :)
Data services OK in RTP area, North Carolina. On an unrelated note, there are massive internet outages/service reductions in Asia at the moment...
No data for me in SW Missouri. No email is driving me nuts!
I'm about three hours out of Chicago and I'm having no problems...
No Data in the Pittsburgh, PA market aswell.
We're out in Colorado!!! My executives aren't very happy!!
Urbana, IL - 2.5 hr south of Chicago.
Edge is down.
All is working fine in Dulles, VA
Down in Kansas City.
Memphis, TN OK
In Chicago, work for AT&T and my teams iPhones are down, as well as our Laptop cards and my Tilt with Goodlink
Data seems to be back up in the Chicago Loop.
I'm out in Minneapolis... Calls but no data...
3G and EDGE are fine for me here in Baltimore.
Data seems to be back up in Pittsburgh.
Allentown PA, ALL is fine here for me
Voice but no data in Denver, CO
Dyer, IN - about an hour southwest of Chicago. No 3G or Edge. I was wondering why my MMS wouldnt go through
Good old AT&T "Allways Technical Troubles"
AT&T data service was down in Atlanta this morning, but was up again before noon.
Service in Omaha Nebraska was down for a bit but seems to be back up. A minor inconvenience if you ask me.
There's a reason I'm sticking with T-Mobile. They may only have EDGE service, but hey, it's been fine for as long as I've had them. I've not ever experienced a problem. AT&T may have the iPhone... but with a few hacks, T-Mobile has it too! ;)
Massachusetts and New Hampshire seem fine
Saint Paul, MN - I didn't even notice until I read the posting. My BlackBerry 8820 is attached to my WiFi router, so everything is working. Upon further review, I notice that the cellular data connection is down. Gotta love the alternate data channels.
I'm in Buffalo, NY and had a little problem with EDGE on my Curve yesterday, but it's fine today.
Data (EDGE) is working here in Orlando FL, but it seems to be going slower than usual.
Problem is fixed
Denver CO - Update.. 3G and Edge network are up an running in Denver again. Came back up around 2:30PM Mountain Time.
This would explain why I couldn't connect earlier this afternoon here in Charlotte, NC.
Its fine in Dallas
I live in Knoxville, TN, and our data network has been really crappy today. Frequent disconnects and problems connecting have annoyed me all day.
No problems in St. Paul, MN!
Voice and data are currently down in Cincinnati, Ohio for EDGE users. 3G seems OK so far.
Data (3G and Edge) and voice services have been sketchy the last few days in the Albany/Schenectady areas of upstate NY. Voice calls have been dropping more and more... probably having something to go with the constant cycling of my phone (Samsung SYNC) from 3G to Edge and back again. There have been hours where I couldn't even call out because there was "No Service." All the calls to customer service were lengthy with no help.
I'm in Chicago. I don't do much with data, but I have been having problems with my At & T phone service. I have been experiencing dropped calls all week and crackly reception. I have NEVER had this problem with my phone or AT & T before this week. But I don't know if it's connected to the other issues.
Louisiana: New Orleans and Northshore areas affected.
100% there have been outages on the west coast with 3G. Causing missed text messages and loss of voice mails
Cincinnati are here and still sporadic service. Data seems to be better but on calls I am getting the "network is busy" at all times of the day and night.
AT&T attributes the reduced service due to "power outages". Never did get to talk to a technical service person. Left the phone on speaker for several hours. YeaHa!
im here in southern cali my n95 8gb is not working =( ever since 7pm
