Android-based E28 touchscreen phone gets demoed on video
Just in case you haven't had your Android fill from this year's Mobile World Congress, the folks from PhoneMag have now let loose a video that shows the much-anticipated OS in action on a working touchscreen phone from E28. As you can see for yourself in the video after the break, the OS is a tad sluggish but not unreasonably so, which is all the more impressive given that it's apparently running without any modifications on some pretty lackluster hardware (a 200MHz OMAP TI 730 chipset and just 64MB RAM and 64MB ROM). Of course, this is just a demo in the truest sense of the word, so there's no indication that you'll actually be able to get your hands on the phone anytime soon.

What with the huge wasted space and the small scroll menu on ALL Android demos. I hate this. It looks so aged and impractical. The best thing about WM is the Today Screen. At least Symbian tried to borrow what it can to make its main screen ( I love my E65 showing me 7 shortcuts to programs, messages, email, and Wi-Fi info on its start screen.
Please. Everyone fears Android will be an ugly and geeky OS. Now it's not even geeky, only ugly.
And yes it's impressive that it runs on such dated hardware. But that doesn't forgive the weird choice for a "start screen", if you can even call it that way.
I think you're underestimating the capabilities Android will have. These demos are usually bare stock. The finalized Android will be very customizable. I'd compare the phone here to a blank copy of say Windows Mobile before a company customizes the homescreen and makes customized apps.
what part of demo do you fail to understand?
oh yea where is the obligatory :
ZOMG THE ANDROID PHONE IS ORANGE ITS UGLY THROW IT AWAY
heres another hint, thats not the android phone just incase your dumbass assumed that too
And I'm still waiting for the mystery DELL Android phone to be announced in the coming months before making the decision to update my E65 to either the glorious XPERIA or the perfect HP OAK.
Maybe DELL's first entry into the cellphone business could resemble some 'other' company's splash entry... we can only hope so.

OH... it's a prototype... thanks. Let's all not critisize its UI till the devices are out, that's when it really is constructive.
Everyone is turned off by the enormous wasted space and impractical start screen. Is it final? D-UH.... of course not. But we've seen much more polished UIs for many other SDK OS over the past years. Symbian, for instance.
So just keep ur must-mock-anyone case to your fatass esp when u know nothing of what you or others are talking about.
D-UH ORANGE gPHONE. right.
