So there's a rumor floating around the internets concerning AT&T, iPhones, and tethering. The story goes something like this: the word tether is mentioned in an AT&T notice about users upgrading to a new iPhone and being forced into another two-year agreement. Apparently, some folks who've only quickly browsed the document made the mistake of assuming that AT&T used the word "tether" the way we all know it best: computer-to-phone, modem-style tethering. Unfortunately, this is a semantic problem -- what AT&T's talking about is using the dock connector to activate the phone, and sync with your computer... not the other way around. So next time you hear someone talk about AT&T's "tethering" plan feel free to set 'em straight.
Why would you want to tether a phone with that slow of a data speed. Just mail a letter it will get there faster and does not cost $499.
first of all, the phone is $399. second of all, if you're an at&t customer chances are you're in an edge area anyways. and thirdly, edge isn't THAT bad
as an ATT customer, I can tell you that EDGE can be THAT bad, and furthermore, tethering "real internet" via edge would take forever. I remember doing it on my cingy 3125 back in the day and it was horrrrrrrible.
that was back in the day too, back around the time the iPhone launched they upped the speed of EDGE. and i tether quite often with my blackberry...it's really not that bad as long as you dont expect to be able to stream video or something very data intensive
I think if you throw a rock at the moon, it would get there 2x faster than the data speeds on an apple cell phone...w-what's it called again?

iFone
I think the rock would hit the dumb ass that throw it. While the iPhone holder walks away laughing and sending emails to their friends about the incident.
I had a sprint smartphone for over two years, since converting to the iPhone the edge speed pulls up sites faster than sprints 3G network showing crapping version of the webpages. Very glad I made the switch.
. . .and sending blurry low res 2mp images of the incident one at a time? Oh, right. If the sun's not out, you won't get any results out of the that camera anyway.
iPhone great phone edge is slow as balls had verizon before doesn't compare on top of that ni flash for iPhone I been waiting since saturday 11am oak brook il June 29 for flash to come just showing ur bit as I bought the phone
Ever think of punctuation?
Well, at least I can tether for free with my $10 unlimited 3G data plan
