Verizon has LG Chocolate and enV replacements enroute
Originally, we'd thought LG's VX10000 Voyager was the spiritual successor to the VX9900 enV; they share a form factor, after all, and let's not forget that 9900 + 100 = 10000. Something wasn't quite right, though -- the Voyager just seemed a tad too upmarket to reach the entire enV fan base. Sure enough, phoneArena has come across the enV's true successor, the rather anonymously-named VX9100, that features a far slicker exterior display and keypad that the phone it replaces, an internal QVGA display 2 megapixel camera, and microSD slot.
That's not the only iconic Verizon model getting re-upped, though. The VX8550 Chocolate is starting to get just a little long in the tooth, and it looks like the VX8610 will swoop in to take its place. The navigation wheel gets replaced with a trackball (we have a feeling we're going to start to see this more and more) surrounded by four keys, but the massive new feature on this sucker is an integrated, detachable Bluetooth headset that stows on the slider's backside -- a patent that archrival Samsung curiously filed for last year. It should feature a 2 megapixel cam, QVGA display, and microSD slot just like its QWERTY cuz. phoneArena reports that both models are expected by the end of the second quarter.

I don't care.....as soon as my 8500 chocolate bites it I'm getting a Voyager
My VX8500 is biting the dust right now, but my NE2 isn't until April and my contract isn't up until August if I'd want to get out for a JesusPhone.
It just recently started getting a mind of it's own and randomly doing things on the touch area that I wasn't doing, like dialing calls whenever I have already slid it shut. I got this to stop by manually locking my phone every time I end a call, but it's annoying and I don't want to always have to manually lock the phone. I'm still running v.4 firmware though, so I don't know if it's a bug finally rearing it's ugly head or what?
The next gen seems appealing though...
Yea I read something they sent out on the family plan a few months ago.
Only the main phone on the account gets new every 2 now
FYI: New every two has always been only for the primary line. The secondary lines qualify for promo pricing but have never been given the extra discount.
My god the front part of the 9100 looks ugly as sin, I had an env 9900 and I thought it looked a lot better than this thing. Good news for the internal QWERTY pad but the front looks so basic. Those music and clear buttons above the send end button look touch sensitive though. I wouldn't buy it, maybe that new slider though
almost makes me want to switch to verizon... not. =p
YESS! More verizon proprietary junk!
Not bad. I wish Vzw would learn a trick from Appl and add more features to their "dumb phones." Like full (and easy) syncing with calendars, address books, music, email etc. Mac+PC.
If they can add WiFi into the Voyager replacement, maybe some less locked-down firmware, I might be persuaded to stay with Verizon
verizon is the best i think im gunna drop my iphone and my att plan and pick up a voyager cuz i have friends that have one and they are a lot better than the iphone. or maybe its just me because i like a touch screen and buttons...
How much will these cost?
This looks great. I have Envy's predecessor and I like it a lot. Just too fat, though. Voyager is to fancy and $$$. I do not like the Envy's screens!!!!! The visibility sucks big time. Hope the screens on this 9100 has improved. I like the sleek look overall. Can't wait to see the price.
