Yeah, the XPERIA X1 runs Windows Mobile 6.1
It probably shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone, but yep, that mysterious new version of Windows Mobile that Sony Ericsson was dread to discuss at MWC wasn't so mysterious at all -- it's just Windows Mobile 6.1. Granted, 6.1 still hasn't been announced to the world, but it's a well-documented rev that should do a decent job of holding us all over until 7 finally (finally!) happens. Given the pure hotness of the hardware, we kinda wish Microsoft actually had rolled some sort of crazy post-6.1 update just for it, but we guess Sony Ericsson's custom panel interface will have to pick up the slack there.

That phone looks really... really... sexy. However, what makes it so good looking is that panel interface, and my guess is, someone from xda-developers will hack that soon enough to be usable on other phones too ;)
You cant hack 800x480 onto a Kaiser. This phone will be mine as soon as I can lay my hands on it.
Did you guys hear any murmors of a possible CDMA version in the near future? This looks to be an amazing phone.
Probably not, just switch to a good GSM carrier, CDMA is crap
when was the last time you saw a Sony Ericsson CDMA phone?
Back when camera phones just started to come out. Knew a person with a CDMA SE phone. They had the optional camera that attached to the bottom.
CDMA? LOL sorry go ask LG theyre the only real supporters left
That screen is pretty high resolution, and the fonts still look like shit.
I saw a vid with a guy interviewing a sony dude that was showing the xperia. When the interviewer asked to see the dial pad the guy kinda went all quiet on the thing. Explains some things.
I've been following the whole XPERIA deal since MWC, and I have to say I'm pretty impressed. I'll be looking into getting one when it's released...and I thought I'd never go back to SE...
Why is everyone so amazed by Windows Mobile 6.1? I have it on my Mogul. Its nothin special. I mean it is faster, and memory management is better but theres not much different. Maybe/hopefully MS is still working on it, but as it is now, it is no major overhaul.
Is this phone going to have a glass touch face or the standard HTC kinda soft touch face?
To bad this is GSM only. There are no good GSM carriers where I live.
I think my iphone is going bye bye. This phone is hot hot hot!
I can't wait to try it, and appreciate the genuine art that is the iPhone interface
I'm assuming this is a smartphone... in other words, you can't edit Word/Excel/Powerpoint docs on it?
It's a PocketPC phone running Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional, so you will be able to edit those formats.
I'm amazed that SE chose Window "Crappy" Mobile over Symbian s60? WHY!?!? I hate Windows Mobile. I guess it'll work for some people - maybe. Talk about going backwards. What a waste of great gadget. I'll stick with my Nokia N
it was probably someone who wanted *gasp* one of them new fangled touch screens.
Does anyone know what cell phone provider you can use this phone with?
According to current specs there should be an X1i or X1a that will provide GSM and 3G for AT&T and T-mobile(when they launch 3G) in America. I kinda doubt you'll be able to get the handset from those carriers, but if you buy it, say from Sony, it should work.
amazin just make sure that the videodrivers work(made by HTC beware) and that i can use it with 6.1 WM without crashing often. then make it with all 4 3g bands(850,1900,2100, and the new 1700) and sell it to us in the US PLEEEEEEEEASE!!!!!!!!!!
