Samsung u550 heads to market for Verizon
This one's been in the mix for a long time now, so it's really too bad it's not a u940-caliber device so we could have ourselves a big ol' celebration. Don't get us wrong -- as the successor to the u540, we're sure Samsung's u550 flip for Verizon will end up seeing its fair share of takers -- it's just nothing to get too fired up over. The headlining features are going to be EV-DO, a 1.3 megapixel camera with Night Shot, Bluetooth, internal 220 x 176 and external 96 x 96 displays, and that's about it -- specifications that would've catapulted the device smack into the middle of the midrange a year or two ago, but now, it's struggling to stay atop the bottom feeders. Fortunately, it's priced accordingly at just $69.99 on a two-year contract after rebates, and it's available today.

As a verizon customer (employers' choice not mine), I have to say that I just love hearing about phones that will be coming and then not seeing them for another 8-10 months.
*taps fingers waiting for htc touch...*
lol yeah, i feel the same way. I always have a debate about things like that with another guy who things Verizon is the BOMB. My frustration comes from a mediocre selection that gets 'refreshed' as a new phone with a higher speed. then brag about how state of the art their phones are.
I to am Verizon customer, by works choice. I wasn't satisfied with their Windows mobile phones, let alone their regular selection.
What really pushes my buttons is, by the time these phones are already miserably outdated.
I hear ya on that. I own verizon as well as sell it and can be tough to sell to the educated and focused cell phone crowd. Your average joe has no idea of 5 or 8 MP cameras or what the hell EVDO or HSDPA even stands for.
Does it make calls? Check
Voicemail? check
Does it tell the time on the outside? Check

The average idiot walking in the store has NO clue. They want a phone that makes calls and doesn't push buttons on the side when they grab it from their pocket. Oh and don't forget their favorite price of FREE. Don't mind that I tell them it sucks, just make sure it's the FREE one.
The nerds who always want the latest and greatest phones are not very high on the Verizon list of people to give a shit about.
The nerd type complains alot, and generally cost more to the company then mom and dad types who just want a phone.
I know you want "cool" phones as we all do, but really the only thing that matters is that it works. VZW has that part covered so I'll let them slide a bit on the phones, which aren't bad.
Let Sprint work out the problems and bugs and when they are fixed, it shows up on Verizon.
One advantage to the phone nerd or whatever we (they) are called, they generally are willing to pay the cash for the phone that meets their electronic prediliction.
Your avg ma and pa want that free phone just like you said.... too bad ;)
