Bellperre announces new luxury handset line
We have to admit, we're pretty shocked that the world can support as many boutique, luxury handset manufacturers as it does; Vertu gets the lion's share of the attention and has the support of parent Nokia, but companies like Mobiado and Bellperre are fending for themselves -- and apparently doing a pretty good job of it, considering that Bellperre is releasing its second model and Mobiado... well, those guys have their own freaking fragrance. Anyway, we don't have a spec sheet for Bellperre's latest candybar, but we can tell you that it's hand-built in the Netherlands and will be available in a variety of sticker shock-inducing materials like crocodile, 18k rose gold, and various hardwoods. Bellperre claims that the new model uses "no plastic," but we've gotta call their bluff. What's that we see in the mini USB port, the handsfree jack, the SIM slot, and the battery contact, hmm? CeBIT attendees this year should be able to get up close and personal with a few of these purely unaffordable goodies.

looks like it's windows mobile, fun
Who even buys these luxury phones? They don't look good, they do less, and they cost more. Who gives a shit if its hand built or made in a assembly line?
Honestly, I'd probably buy one. Not the Bellperre handsets in particular, but the Vertus are really nice, and the Mobiados are interesting. I don't replace my phones very often, and I don't use very many features other than calling and texting, with the odd photo here and there, so I can justify buying a luxury handset. I have the 8600 Luna right now, and love it.
Why pay so much for a phone that doesn't do anything? I don't know if they have changed it, but their interfaces don't look nice either. I guess people just really like to show off their phones.
That thing would have been a hit in the 90s, when phones that looked like bricks still sold. Unfortunately, if you coat an ugly, brick phone in crocodile skin or gold, it's still an ugly, brick phone. Even if I could afford it, I'd still rather have a LG or a Nokia.
I'm not going to spend money on a phone that doesn't do much, but I have to say I like the design. Reminds me of old school SE.
Engadget- you're being a little pick about the "no plastic". They mean case, shell & most internals. I don't think it's a lie & understand the intent: Phone quality is high.
Oh yeah- waaaaaayyyyyyyy more luxorious than an iphone. What a douchebag phone.
@ Anthony-
Nope- sorry dude- engadget is right. It has plastic. False advertising! What a bunch of liars.
let the ideots buy these outdated WM5 smartphones with low res screen 1,3 MP Camera, Camcorder, Video Player for stupid prices. seriously if you have all these xtra buks to spend just for the sake of it - better of buying a decent phone and getting some gold covers made at a jeweller or summin.
Minus all the glitzy crap, the phone almost looks like my old high-band Minitor II voice pager. Is big, ugly and most likely utterly useless. I'll stick to my Blackberry Curve on the deathstar's network.
I'd get it for the added safety:
"Holy crap are you alright? That bullet went right into your chest!"
"Into? Hmm, no, seems it's lodged in my my Bellepere phone. It's made without plastics you know."
...well, something like that.
