3G iPhone rumored to be Infineon-powered, hitting "mid-year"
Hold the presses: Apple may be releasing a new iPhone this year... with 3G! Crazy, we know. The latest iteration of this rumor comes to us courtesy of UBS analysts, who say Infineon will likely be building chips for the phone -- they're powering the current iPhone, so no real surprise there. UBS is also betting on a mid-year 3G iPhone launch, and thinks that EDGE production will ramp down early so Apple gets a chance to clean out inventories. We've got a good feeling about this one, guys.

To be perfectly honest this was expected by many. Apple wants to say competitive & as great as the iPhone is currently it just was NOT going to continue to compete without 3G! Now I may actually spend the money & get one. Edge was crawling with a snail in the lead!!!!
I am not good with computer.
I say bring it on. I can't wait... Btw, I'm an iPhone user. ;)
But will it have flash support!? That beautiful touch screen is begging for some 3's company spoofs. Remember?
As I have said 14 million times before - if apple is going to stay on target for 10M units by 2009, they will have to release new hardware - not just memory bumps.
Wow you think PEZ? Like that takes a lot of thinking to figure out.
How is battery life going to be like w/ 3G though?
Wait, so this is just another speculation made by analysts? How is this a solid rumor? This isn't someone hearing something, this is just another guess.
I'll get an iphone when 3G, Built-in GPS Chip and Flash Support, I hope they include these features in the next IPhone.
Man, I need to get a good paying job as an analyst...read engadget for 10 minutes then state the obvious!
First phone to the market with 3G, GPS, HTML Browser and 3.5" Screen takes my money
Yes, I agree with this 100%. Only problem I can see with any of this is AT&T and their miserable "3G" network. I hope by the time they release iPhone 2 they can improve what they have now and expand. I would wish for 3G wherever AT&T has service, but as it is now they have spotty to non existent service in mainly major cities. AT&T's Data coverage sucks as compared to their CDMA rivals and that has got to change.
It wont be released until june 30th so everyone will run out and buy the extended warranty for their old phone.. also anyone think of branded apple phones in a name other then iphone but with a lot of similarities? mac phone with 3g and all the other goodies coming to sprint and verizon anyone? id be in heaven with sprints NEW simply everything plan!
why don't they just come out with an iPhone that runs on EVDO network. my blackberry gets over 1Mbps on CNET download test page!
@poharp14
I hope not.
