Nokia N78 in the house -- the FCC's house, that is
The European flavor of Nokia's N78 -- the one bearing the very un-American 900 and 2100MHz WCDMA radios -- just hit the wire, and while there's nothing much going on here that we didn't already know from Nokia's reveal at MWC, we did notice a sentence in the SAR report that has us just a little concerned. And we quote: "The difference between RM-236 and RM-235 is that RM-236 has had WCDMA900, WCDMA2100 and WLAN2450 components removed." In other words, Nokia appears to be making reference to a version of the N78 that has no American 3G (no 3G whatsoever, in fact) and no WiFi, and that's a version we want nothing to do with. What gives, Nokia?
Update: As several folks have stated, this particular N78 is destined for the Chinese market, where HSDPA doesn't really, how should we put this... apply. The N78 with North American 3G is still very much a go. Thanks, everyone!

WHAT are they thinking?!? This day and age SAR rating of 1.08 :)
It's the non-3g version, nokia always does that, take for example the n70-5, in fact, if the model name is nXX-5 it probably is a chinese version.
Well considering Nokia actually announced the US 3G version I think we're in the clear.
Like said in the previous post chances are it is a Chinese model.
I'm waiting on the US 3G model so I can use it as a backup for my N95-3.
t-mobile is probably what gives...
i really wish they would roll out 3g sometime soon....
I'm just waiting for my (fictional) N82 16GB North American 3G, with MicroSD slot!
(Hey, it could happen! The N96 is 16 GB with MicroSD slot, and the N95 has a NA 3G version and a rumored N95 8GB NA 3G... just ya know, combine all of them into my sleek N82... **drools**)
Destine for AT&T since AT&T love to cripple Nokia phones (E61/E62, N75, and N80 which was never released)
Hi
Nokia manufactures 3 different variants of the N78, depending on the area where they will be sold. As Erik suggested, RM-236 is for sale in China, where regulatory requirements do not allow mobile devices to include WCDMA and WiFi bands. RM-236 is effectively the same device as the RM-235, on which the testing has been based, apart from the removal of the WCDMA and WiFi bands.
RM-342 is the N78 variant that will be for sale in the American market - it contains WCDMA850, WCDMA1900 and WiFi; this will be filed to the FCC in due course.
Hope that clarifies...Mark Durrant, Nokia
