XPERIA X1 shows AT&T graphic at CeBIT -- what could it possibly mean?
So it seems the X1 being shown off at CeBIT following its MWC debut last month is equipped with a particularly curious panel in its software load. Anyone care to take a guess? No cheating and looking at the one we've circled now. Yeah, okay, it's that big AT&T logo front and center, which makes an appearance in several of PHONE Magazine's shots of the interface. We'd like to believe that means that AT&T is a lock to pick up one of the hottest Windows Mobile devices ever manufactured, and indeed, it probably does -- its 3G radio is certainly ripe for the job -- but it's entirely possible to think that Sony Ericsson is still in the process of selling carriers on the device, and is simply trying to get 'em to crack a smile by loading their logo. Keep your fingers crossed, ladies and gentlemen.

Not to sound like a disgruntled HTC customer who has been shafted in the past, but...
Why should I be looking forward to a Tilt with a body kit and snazzy home screen that doesnt tilt again?
oh, and no more QVGA, I will say that is a major plus
Well, it has a WVGA screen, 3.5mm jack, MSM7200A processor (65nm = better battery life; 528mhz) multimedia center software, optical dpad as well as 4-way key, nicer keyboard, should actually utilize hardware acceleration, smaller than the tilt, 3.2mp camera (and SONY phone cameras are known to be good), and it just looks sexy. I hate HTC too but no one cares to compete. But when SE and HTC team up, I don't expect it will be a half assed product. I don't know about SE, but SONY always delivers an all around product. Even though HTC will produce it, it is still an SE product, and I don't think they will let HTC screw up the best WM phone to date.
BTW, can I change my password? I dont like having to look up some random number every time I want to post..
Sheez, maybe because it isn't a tilt, it isn't even a HTC?
It IS an HTC device, just with a Sony interface/branding.
It looks like a graphical list of recently visited websites and At&t is just one one them. Just a guess...
It's not a list of websites. More like open applications/windows. There's a WM homescreen, some websites, etc. all revolving around an AT&T image.
if you notice the right "panel" of at&t, it appears magneta color, does it mean T-Mobile?!
and.....the "mysterious" SE phone T-Mobile currently testing should be X1, not P5i
That magneta colored panel could infact be the Tzones website. In Phonemags other pictures, the upper left hand corner of that pannel seems to have a circular magneta icon that looks very closely to Tzones Icon.
Icon shown on this phone looks almost alike to that of the panels.

Oh GOD Please bring this to T-Mobile, I am begging you.
Hahah, did you suckers actually believe that this will be coming to T-Mobile?
Dream on...
Maybe T-Mobile UK will get it but sadly, T-Mobile US will likely get a Samsung slider in place of this...
To be honest the Xperia X1 may just be the deciding factor on whether I leave t-mobile or not. If T-Mo releases a slew of crappy, under-featured phones for its 3g network I'm jumping ship to the death star or sprint(provided wi-max is up to par)
I sort of doubt this will come to the US as it is. This is like the Nokia E90 - sure its been tested to work here, but honestly, this thing is going to cost $800... no way is any carrier going to bring it here - and if they do, it will stink.
AHAHAHAHA AHAHAHAHA HAHAHAHAHA!
Do you remember the original listed cost of the Kaiser? And then what the Tilt actually cost at the time of launch? Somehow, devices that seem overly expensive at first always seem to find their way down to a reasonable cost by the time carriers are releasing them.
If it comes to AT&T, I'll definitely take a look at it as a replacement to my Tilt. I've always liked Sony Ericsson and have loved HTC (current chipset driver issues aside) since my 8125/Wizard. Combine the two companies and I think I could be sold.
this should be filed under AT&T
So is there any more coverage at cebit? Is phonemag the only one who dropped by the SONY booth?
how much will this phone be and whats the date for it to be out for att
would someone be so kind as to tell me when is the 2nd half of this season, so i can know when i can pick up this phone. thank-you
September 2008 is the oficial date - Announced bt SE at CeBIT.
please let me know when is the 2nd hald ,s o i can order this phone. Thank you
I'll tell you what it means, it means I may be switching from my Tilt to this in a matter of months.
That bad boy has UMTS 1700. That's all that matters to me!
oh man i hope that means it's coming to at&t. i will totally ditch my tilt for this. i think i'm gonna have to buy it without contract though. my wife's gonna be pissed!
So....How does this phone compare to the Apple(TM) Iphone(TM)
I'm just messin i just wanted to be a dick and bring up the iphone...
We all know this phone will rock all our asses...even the iphones ass...
(please dont flame me)
DONT FLAME ME BRO
but will it blend? and play doom? At the SAME TIME?
my post does not contribute to the conversation im sorry
i was thinkin the same exact thing you are man. (where are all the jesusphone users that are gonna blast this poor SE handset already???)
sorry iphone lovers... but when it comes to having a full qwerty keyboard, nothing compares to the real thing. not even touch ones. =p
@mikeed
I guarantee you that I'm faster on my iPhone keyboard then you are with whatever keyboard you're using.
it has begun... wooHOO!
p.s. the fact of the matter is... i don't care how fast you type. =D have a nice day.
SE Fanboy
Does it really matter if T-Mo officially caries this? It ALREADY HAS the necessary UMTS/HSDPA/HSUPA 1700MHz bands. It supports T-Mo USA's 3G network. Buy it unlocked, simple as that. Doesn't matter which version (European or North American) you buy if you're on T-Mo, BOTH versions have UMTS 1700 and 2100. But the European substitutes AT&T's UMTS 850 for UMTS 900. T-Mo is on the better end of this. You don't believe for a second AT&T will actually release it without castrating it and putting AT&T logos on everything do you? How's about also modifying the interface and limiting your GPS software options to TeleNav and...TeleNav. Yeah, this is one of those phones you might want to save the money for and buy unlocked.
You're statement makes no sense. Sure they'll put an AT&T logo on it, but what carrier wouldn't? My Tilt has the logo in one place. Also, I'm guessing you haven't played with a 8125, 8525 or Tilt because none of them had modified interfaces (unless you're talking bloatware, which again, what carrier doesn't?) nor does the Tilt have a limited GPS (I use iGO with no problems).
Sir I think you have officially confused Verizon & AT&T.
yeah and just buy it unlocked its not a big deal. i means its not like it costs 500 dollars extra or anything right? o wait
This phone won't be out until later in 2008, and unlocked, it's going to be a small fortune. But I guess that's what you pay to get Sony quality with all these features crammed into one device. Online retailers are estimating almost $1000.00 for this sucker when it comes out. Of course, then you have to buy a microSD (or Sony M2 - whichever the phone uses) memory card for it, too...
Which leads me to ask, why doesn't a phone this expensive already have between 8GB and 16GB integrated into it? This would be my primary complaint. $1000 for a phone and all the storage memory that comes with it is 400MB? That's just COMPLETELY unacceptable! WM phone manufacturers have to wake up. At the very least, they should include 8GB memory cards in the box.
As I mentioned before, we still don't know if it uses microSD or Sony M2 cards. If Sony has any kind of sense regarding this, they'll have gone with microSD.
The last question I have is, what kind of GPS does it have? All they talk about is A-GPS. What does that mean? I know what A-GPS technology is, but it doesn't indicate anything about what the phone truly has. Because devices with true GPS chipsets in them will sometimes offer A-GPS in addition, as an added benefit. While other devices fail to integrate an actual GPS chipset, but instead offer only A-GPS which utilizes a WiFi connection to gather locational info. The latter, of course, is incredibly lame. So if they're going to charge a grand for this thing, at that price, it better have a great GPS chipset inside, or it's a no go for me. One little missing component like that will spoil the whole thing. A-GPS isn't good enough. I want to see SiRFstar III GPS in this thing, but I'm certain that won't happen, otherwise, they would've mentioned it by now. Qualcomm GPS would be better than nothing - that's what the HTC Tytn II (HTC Tilt) has. But on the bright side, the fact that the Xperia will offer an FM radio tells me that it very well may have a true GPS chipset inside, so there's still hope. They better make it clear, though, and soon.
A lot of us have big expectations for the X1 - so Sony, you better not let us down.
