Adobe says Flash is coming to the iPhone
The word is out, kids. Adobe has apparently gone against old Jobsy's wishes, and it's planning a Flash player made all special for the iPhone (ala Windows Mobile) despite Apple's concerns that the technology -- in its current incarnation, anyway -- isn't cut out for mobile duty. During a conference call today, Chief Executive Shantanu Narayen said, "We believe Flash is synonymous with the Internet experience, and we are committed to bringing Flash to the iPhone," adding, "We have evaluated (the software developer tools) and we think we can develop an iPhone Flash player ourselves." We wouldn't be surprised if Adobe were to be given a pass on all those pesky SDK rules that would likely prevent a proper browser-based Flash component to be coded for the device, though those Apple dudes can be real sticklers for rules.

Apple may put the brakes on Adobe's plans. Apple should have snatched Macromedia before Adobe did.
Jobs never dissed Flash. He only dissed the current players Adobe offered as being too bloated or too stripped down. He even said "there's this missing product in the middle." Did you reread your own story?
"He even said 'there's this missing product in the middle.'"
Asking for a product that does not exist is still rejecting the current product.
Geeeesus - that was about time! If that realy works, then all
iphoners out there can use my actual project called mojocafe.de
on their devices *happy slapping around*
So the question is if Silverlight will be the next step on the iphone :)
Hopefully it will play stand alone .swf files... And allow the creation of projectors.
Nice!
I don't find Flash on the iPhone a very compelling addition until 3G is available. I'm all for Flash support, but downloading 100k+ flash files will be agonizing using EDGE.
Reserve the right to ignore flash-based pages while on the go, but I'm sure I speak for everyone when I say us ipod touch users wouldn't mind some flash content over wi-fi.
