We all need to reserve judgment until we actually have one in our hands, but we have to admit -- the
Samsung Glyde for Verizon sure seems to get more beautiful every time we get new shots of it. These particular shots, of course, are designed to be especially beautiful since they're stock photos to be used for press and promotion. Are you really here to hear us blab about 'em, though? Heck no, you aren't! Go ahead, get a little clicky down below for the full gallery.
a haiku:
verizon, you tease
release this phone already!
my heart aches for it
Such a horrid name for an interesting device.
i agree randy! sounds like a tampon
Would you rather have it called the Q-Ball
..Personally, I would =P
looks bulky.
If only Samsung made a GSM version.
They do, the F700. It's been around since December 2007.

it's been out ummm, i little longer than that ;)

WOW, I LOVE THE HUGE VERIZON LOGO!!! SOOOO COOL!!!!
TOTALLY! Sweet design-- folks fired by Apple can still get work, apparently. Gotta know what network you're using, just like you need to know you're at the MY SHORTCUTS page.
holy crap why do people bitch about the logo so much i seriously dont understand it
wi-fi? price? does anyone know when we can expect it to be released?
No wifi in F700 model over seas, so I doubt it.
No WiFi, $249.99 after a $50 mail in rebate and a 2 year contract. Current speculation is March 25th, but many people think it won't be until the middle/end of April.
it says that it is expected by the end of march wich is weird cuz its already the 21st. this might end up like the voyager... the date wasnt known till like 1 or 2 weeks b4 the lauch.
Am I the only one who thinks that thing looks a little thick?
That was a good idea putting nothing but a home button on the front like that. They should patent that before anyone else decides to do that.
I agree, it looks like it's 2 inches thick, but in reality, it isn't. They chose poor angles...
It's less than 3/4 of an inch thick..
My photoshop math puts it at about 18mm thick. Not RAZR thin, but not too chubby.
@ astoria
Wifi? - No
Price? - I've read a rumor that at BestBuy it will be $499 before a 2-year contract re-up
Availability? - As far as i know, between now and April.
Why do I know this? I've been obsessing over getting a new verizon phone for awhile. I'm either getting this or the Touch.
i doubt it will be $499 unless that is without contract. The Voyager is a similar device, the almost only difference is that the Voyager is a clamshell vs. slider. The Voyager is $299.99, i would expect something more around there.
Does this phone have a full browser or is it the POS verizon "browser"?
HTML browser just like the voyager.
I wouldn't compare a browser to the Voyager's as a good thing.
All of your questions can be answered here: http://www.howardforums.com/showthread.php?t=1341147&page=1&pp=15
I had a chance to play with the phone. It's pretty much as shown. I was told they had to work on the interface a little bit, before release. But the phone can actually fit in the right change part of a pair of jeans. the opening and closing of the phone is pretty smooth. Buttons are a little small but doable.
This fatty should fit in well with the rest of Verizon's chunky phones.
Yep.... Definitely Fat.... :/
oh, I meant NOT if you happen upon any other full qwerty thats thinner, let me know. and, i guess we'll have to see when it comes out
Which is why I would never buy a phone in this form factor. They are all obese, and generally extremely cheap feeling. The Voyager is exhibit 1A.
you can't really compare this to the Voyager. Voyager is a clamshell device, this is a slider more like the Sprint Mogul
My guess is August of 2009 for a release date. I mean we are talking about Verizon here. Don't they wait until something is obsolete before they release it?
I know what you mean I have them and they never get anything fast and the voyager is a shame I don't want an iPhone cause i have an ipod touch but the voyager isn't what im looking for and this looks a little to thick.
As an employee of Verizon Wireless this is a massive point of frustration for me as well. The old codgers in charge of testing drag their feet and by the time we get a release on hardware it's already fossilized.
LOL!
It's not that Fat
See: http://www.phonearena.com/htmls/New-spy-pics-of-Samsung-Glyde-U940-article-a_2544.html
It's just big boned.
It looks like the only thing that is different from this and the Voyager is that this a a slide up keyboard and the voyager has a flip up. I want both. :-)
Can't wait for this release, April 10th would be nice (upgrade day), but I'd be willing to wait a bit longer.
Is it navy blue or black? If you look on the back, it looks kind of blue... either way I'm still getting it!
i think the really cool things about this phone are the croix interface and, unlike the iphone, it has TRUE widescreen.
It looks nice - basically a different form factor for the Voyager.
I'm with you, I think my upgrade day is April 28th, so it should be out by then
this design says is too HTC to be samsung. Im thinking they put their name on someone else's phone. would not be the first time. starcomm does it as does half the european carriers.
Momotar0,
Verizon's testing process is the reason why Verizon has the most reliable network. Just too bad they don't test Motorola phones the same way. Always issues with those.
Only thing here, these phones are starting to look the same. My prediction is that in about 5 years sll the phones will have QWERTY keyboards of some type (no pun intended) or even a laser keyboard!
anyone no it tomorrow the 25th is confirmed for launch?
I saw the Samsung Glyde in person on Sunday May 4, at Verizon, I know the sales rep there and he let me see before it comes out..and it is wayyyy smaller than the voyager..It is nice!!..I'm thinking about getting it..
It's so beautiful........I want it so bad. I am a text freak and want a phone with a keyboard.
