Windows Mobile 6.1 being unveiled next week?

Microsoft's stepping stone to a true next-gen mobile platform, Windows Mobile 6.1, has already been largely outed thanks to a Motorola leak and Sony Ericsson's XPERIA X1 reveal at MWC last month -- but Microsoft probably still feels entitled to throw its own little party, and it might just be happening soon. Pocket-lint claims that Redmond plans to officially launch 6.1 at CTIA next week -- April 1, to be exact -- though there'll be a wide gap between any announcement off in Vegas and actual availability on retail handsets, so it really doesn't mean a whole heck of a lot to consumers right away. Question is, what's more anticipated: 6.1 or the X1 itself?

Thanks for clarifying this. I read the same news on other website and they were like: Windows Mobile 6.1 will be finally released! and I was wondering because I have it on my 8125 for some time now.
But now I got it: it will be OFFICIALLY released. It's not a big deal, I think X1 is what we're waiting here.

Its so much better UI wise. I must say, the homescreen is so much more useful than before. I thought all that flashy Vista Glass look would slow down my phone.

I think part of the real wait is to see if the X1 will have any 2D video drivers since nobody is willing to give up their arm, leg, and big toes to Qualcomm.

WM 6.1 is a yawn. Those of us who have been using it for a while can tell you that is minuscule changes add up to very little. Still, upgrades are upgrades, we won't complain. The new version of PIE, while it still sucks, at least makes it usable. Threaded text messaging is nice for anyone who isn't already using a third party app like PocketCM. I just wouldn't say it's HIGHLY anticipated.

Since WM6.1 is readily available in stock and custom versions over at XDA, I'd definitely have to say the X1 is more anticipated.

I agree!

It's nice that 6.1 is finally out (my Tilt has been rocking a cooked 6.1 ROM from the genius known as Dutty from XDA), but the fact that the X1 is shown on the story's picture just overshadows the story itself... the X1 is far more exciting than 6.1.

i have the Alltel PPC6800 and CAN NOT find the windows mobile 6.1 anywhere. can anyone point me in the right direction.
