For DVR control: if the browser is good enough, couldn't you just use your DVR's website (for example "My Tivo") to set your DVR?Not a fun process over EDGE, certainly, but maybe 3G? Assuming you happen to be standing right next to one of AT&T's scarce 3G towers? :)
