Rogers getting real with Nokia N95 next month?
For a phone that came out in 2006, it's kinda surprising how much interest (both from carriers and end users) that the Nokia N95 series continues to enjoy. With any luck, we'll be seeing it launch on AT&T later this year -- but Rogers is apparently poised to beat 'em to the punch. Mobile In Canada reports that Canada's 800-pound GSM behemoth intends to launch the N95 (the North American, non-8GB model, as far as we can tell) as early as May 2nd -- which, alongside the already-launched Sony Ericsson K850i, makes for a powerful one-two combo of 5 megapixel 3G Europhones. Only time will tell, but we're feeling good about this one, folks; only question is, N95 8GB next?

As for at&t the nokia rep told our stores it was killed.
Sorry to burst your bubble, but as of last week the nokia rep said it will be avialble late July. they are doing 400 hours of testing. If they can release the Samsung A747 slider with this kind of testing then I am sure they would realse the N95.
Well your at&t rep and my rep should go bowling sometime to make sure their stories are straight.
Does this mean Rogers will finally have a decent data plan?
Otherwise, half the features of the N95 become useless.
$65/1GB not good enough for you!?! :P
I find it strange that Rogers considers themselves a "premium" service provider, yet offers 2 year old hardware.
Jason, Rogers IS a premium provider in North America. AT&T refuses all the good phones. No k790a or k850i for US carriers, but Rogers got both. That's just one example.
sigh.. I have stuck with Fido for years now (for no good reason after my data plan got misplaced) and have a huge credit. So I sure hope they provide these new devices on Fido as well.
I bought an N95-3 and it's been nice, but once my wrangled unlimited data runs out mid May I'll be keen for longer term options.
But I have my doubts about Rogers carrying the N95, do they have any devices that supports wifi?
only now it's in a Canadian carrier?
since mid-late 2007 it's been available here in Brazil. both the N95-1 (though 2100Mhz UMTS/HSDPA networks will go live later this year) and the N95-3 (850Mhz 3G is already available in some regions)
The N95 was announced in 2006. It wasn't out until 2007.
Wow- so we may get an official N95 release before the N96 is available? Just barely. No one's going to care- especially if they release it the same month as the iPhone 3G.
Love my N95 8gb & am glad to have bought it from a "non traditional" source (take that ATT!).
Sweet! I hope the $7 unlimited on-device data plan is available on this one
I got a buddy at Rogers who confirmed the May launch for the N95 a few weeks ago - this is 2nd confirmation for me, therefore I am a believer
I am surprised about the non 8-gigs though; why not? Rogers launches several 8-gigs phones, maybe too expensive?
Too bad, I'd pay for it, this phone is still the cadillac of phones - apart from iPhone, of course, but will we see the iPhone in Canada one day?
I never understand people who deliberate buying either the N95 or the iPhone. These are completely opposite beasts!
The iPhone has an immaculate industrial design, slim, sexy, multi-touch UI that is all about usability. It has a mediocre feature set (compared to even run-of-the-mill Motorola RAZRs, save for WiFi and Visual Voicemail), and is not likely to sustain a geek once the initial week of awe has expired...
The N95 is all about function, not form. Chubby, not the prettiest phone out there by any stretch of the imagination, no touch-screen, and certainly not with the awe-inspiring UI that the iPhone has. But: It has GPS, WiFi, 3.5G, IR port, 5MP camera w/flash and VGA video recording, "real" bluetooth (no the sorry excuse of a single profile that the iPhone has), REAL "real" Internet with Flash, turn by turn navigation (optional), S60 smartphone OS (so you can run not just Java applications, but a whole bunch of native and more powerful ones as well), and a very active user/developer community. It is customizable and open in ways that the iPhone will never be. It is unlocked, so you can easily get a local SIM card when travelling abroad (and save money).
Yet, these are the two phones people often contemplate as competitors. Go figure.
It will be the 8GB model. Approximately one week til launch parties, Van, TO and Montreal, stock apparently available very quickly afterward if not immediately.
Does anyone have an update on when the N95 is supposed to come out with Rogers? The rumors said it would be released on May 2nd. I just called Rogers and asked anout the Nokia N95 and they had no idea what I was talking about?
