Palm Treo 850 spy shots leak out
It's finally, really happened. The Boy Genius has gotten his hands on pictures of a brand-spanking-new Palm device -- a heretofore unknown model called the Treo 850. As you can see in the above photo, this is a whole new look for the ailing smartphone maker, though it certainly bears a resemblance to the Centro and Treo 500. Apparently the Windows Mobile device will sport a 400MHz CPU and a 100MB of RAM, though other details are sketchy at the moment. Honestly, not a bad turn for Palm at all -- now if you can just whip up that new OS and some new form factors and...

Josh,
That *is* a touchscreen device.
WM Pro devices have an "OK" button and soft keys. You need to fix your post ;-)
This is a WM Pro device with a flush KB, just like the Vodafone "drucker" map said.
looks cool. stop hating on the form factor.
Flush keyboard? Is it a flush screen?
Looks OK. Hopefully it's 320x320 and MUCH brighter than the 750.
And hopefully GPS too. And HSDPA and HSUPA. :)
Oh, and wifi! LOL
That is a nice lookin Treo. Hopefully it'll have all the stuff Juice mentioned and be a bit thinner than the 800w.
Cool phone..can't believe I'm actually calling a Palm device cool. Glad they put WM on it because palm OS just doesn't cut it.
ugg...centro keyboard?!
Wow, looks cool. I was a huge Palm user for years and finally gave up on them last year. If they can get a device like this and if the new OS is any good they might still turn it around.
Shocking! Centro's for-kids-only keyboard ... Copycatted Nokia Green/Red phone button placement/style ... _AND_ ... barely updated graphics on the function keys! Way to rock the tech world, Palm (not)!
Does a phone for mostly business users need to rock the tech world.
Yes, because the biggest innovations on a phone are usually on the outside...
And WTF @ "Copycatted Nokia Green/Red phone button placement/style"? Um, pretty much every phone ever uses a green button to start calls and a red button to end them (and to turn off the phone), and they're almost always in those same positions. How the hell has Palm "copycatted" Nokia?
THIS JUST IN: ALL PHONE MANUFACTURERS COPYCATTED NOKIA FOR HAVING A VERTICALLY ORIENTED PHONE, WITH BUTTONS BELOW THE SCREEN. ZOMG!
@Dirk:
I'm just _ever_ so certain that major corporations and governments, world-wide, will be breaking down Palm's doors to obtain this design insult, sending Palm's share prices through the roof and RIMM owners running for their lives.
@mog:
If that's what you have to tell yourself, then be so deluded. We're talking design elements, not the definition of a function button.
backbeat: Seriously, though. What "design elements" did Palm copy from Nokia, with regards to their send and end buttons, that aren't already common on many other phones? Color? Nope. Placement? Nope. Shape? Not really. What?
@mog:
Do you even recognize that the center function keys are changed from that of Treos past?
However, upon further review, possibly it was the Centro who was the first to rip Nokia's updated N-series in that dept. Rather than a linear design, Palm reinvented the circle for the outboard Red/Green in this abomination.
I think palm is heading in the right direction with this one. It looks pretty good and I think they can push a few of the door. People can hate on the centro all they want, but they have sold well. Palm is not dead just yet.
oops, I meant, "push a few OUT* the door..."
An actually modern looking and sexy Palm. Too bad it still has to compete with iMate, HTC, and Sony.. Hahah, Sony kicks Palm's ass again.
Let's hope it has WiFi this time! The lack of WiFi was the reason I didn't get a Treo 750 in the past.
