Video: Google demos the HTC Dream at I/O conference
Word on the street is that Google just busted out a live demo of the oft-rumored HTC Dream doing its Android-flavored thing at the company's I/O conference in San Francisco. Reports tell us that the device is a roughly 3-inch by 5-inch touchscreen phone with a slider keyboard. Not a lot is known right now, though apparently the device packs an accelerometer which allows you to tilt the unit to scroll across Google Maps or Street View. A video is on the way, so stay tuned for more information (and images) as we get them.

I know I said the HTC Raphael would be mine when it was available, but this device right here?!?! I think I may just want to beg, borrow and steal to get my hands on one of those.
Relax people. All you saw was a demo of Google streetview on a phone. For like 8 seconds...
That phone looks like unadulterated awesomeness. To wit, the HTC Dream is almost certainly never going to land on Sprint. As much as I like my Sero plan, their phone selection is so unbelievably pathetic that there's almost no way I'll be using them by the end of the year. HTC Touch Diamond, Xperia 1, HTC Dream, 3G iPhone... all the coolest phones are on all the other carriers. Cheap plan or no, I deserve a cool phone, and I'll switch to whatever carrier wants to offer it to me.
I thought it was already confirmed that the Diamond will be on Sprint. Probably before any other carrier. Plus it makes natural sense that the Raphael will follow. What I don't know about is the Xperia X1 since Sprint isn't that popular for Ericsons.
Those are some great features, but I wish they would tell us WHEN IS IT COMING OUT?!
What are u talking about? Sprint has a good relationship with HTC, AFAIK they were one of the first carriers to have HTC devices. Also don't forget that Sprint is part of Google's Open Handset Alliance. Oh and that little 3G icon on the top of the screen most likely means that it was running the demo on Sprint's EVDO network. at&t hasn't offically joined the OHA and even though T-mobile has joined OHA they don't have 3G in San Francisco and VZW which did not support OHA at first is apparently a member now. So if u determine all that info, then u can definitely conclude that the dream is going to be a CDMA - EVDO device, and since Sprint usually gets HTC devices before VZW does, then you can come to the conclusion that Sprint will have the Dream.

ok so i eat my words, i see in a later post the specs for the dream, HSDPA. But HTC has been known to support both formats, ala HTC Touch. Dont count out an EVDO version of the dream just yet.
HTC Diamond and Raphael are slated for the US on Sprint (though not a long term exclusivity)

Finally! I have been waiting for news on this phone. Can't wait till it comes out.
The only ding against Android, based on what has been show, is the UI - which is ugly and terribly clunky in appearance and navigation. I hope for my/our sake this won't be the final GUI design when the OS goes RTM.
yea that dudes info is wrong diamond and raphael are going cdma.
xperia probably not but thats sony ericsson thing but they said its not completely ruled out. so u never know.
3g iphone. id take this over it anyday since it has the keyboard and the 3.5 inch screen. this is exactly what the iphone should have been.
finally why wouldnt it go cdma? google doesnt have any beef with qualcomm like the rest of them.
Wow, that pan camera GPS thing is sick.
You all need to see the videos here:

That is HOT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
thanks for the link shows off a lot of stuff, i'm definately more interested in android now compared to that old video that was around.
"Reports tell us that the device is a roughly 3-inch by 5-inch touchscreen phone with a slider keyboard."
man, that thing is going to be huge!!! i'll pass. the ui looks like windows xp and i'm sure this compass feature will be available on the diamond, xperia 1 and just about any other phone with an accelerometer.
This app is way cool. This is our first view of a real Android phone running an app that Google is proud enough to demo, and I think it says a lot. He is why we think that Android is going to be a game changer: http://www.zintin.com/blog/2008/05/google-demos-android-htc-dream/
the htc dream will launch on tmobile and sprint. i know this for a fact.
Apparently this is only coming out on T-Mo at the moment.!?
