Call it
Raphael no longer! HTC has officially thrown the cover off its Touch Pro today -- the QWERTY slider sibling of the recently-unveiled
Touch Diamond -- which should cover the bases for those who loved the Diamond's keen looks but decided they'd go our of their gourds without a full set of physical keys at their disposal. Under that glossy black shell lies WiFi, HSPA with a solid 7.2Mbps on the downstream, Bluetooth, 2.8-inch VGA display, Windows Mobile 6.1 featuring HTC's TouchFLO 3D interface, a 3.2 megapixel camera, a half gig of ROM, and 288MB of RAM. It's not going to win any "world's thinnest" records with an 18.05mm waistline, but those five rows of textual healing don't come without a price. The first batch of devices will be Europe-bound in "late summer" with 900 / 2100MHz 3G alongside the quadband GSM and EDGE; North and Latin American versions are promised for later in the year.
It's Dreamy!!!
I'll take this over an iPhone anyday, T-Mobile should sell Dwayne Wade and Charles Barkley to buy this!
That is really nice-looking. I'm leaving WM when the 3G iPhone comes out for lots of reasons, but this is one nice piece of hardware.
+ android
do I see a camera flash ?????whoot
y dint they bring it out for the diamond too :(
I miss the D in HSPA
Bah, lack of 3.5" no good
I concur. What is it with HTC and their continuous hard-on for 2.8" screens? Did they just order wayyy too many 2 years ago and now need to keep using them forever? (yes, that was sarcasm)
@fyreblazer
Iol
I also agree, could not have said it better myself. lol
MINE!
i've been a sprint customer since like 1996. its about damn time i got a plethora of sweet phones to choose from.
(assuming that tip sheet was right a couple months ago)
So heres the answer from HTC, to those who were criticizing abt diamond, that it has no longer battery life, and no card slot n all..
Now its a complete phone !! !! isnt it ??
Man, i love HTC..
Hot!!!!!!!!! and YAY for quadband GSM at least!!!!!!!!!!
Boo its only triband according to HTC's site.
Gonna go ahead and bet some peanuts that you're on the Magenta network? You know, with the rare and elusive 1700 MHz 3G network?
I would love this piece of work, but without that 1700 MHz radio, can't say I can live on just GPRS/EDGE.
Then again, it does spec out to Eurasia only...maybe USA to have 1700 MHz?! (crosses fingers)
Tri-band GSM/GPRS/EDGE:
Europe/Asia: 900/1800/1900 MHz
Wow, that's a beautiful phone. I just wish the touch screen was bigger - no need for all of those controls.
But a physical keyboard is great - I'm having so much trouble typing on my iPhone.
Would love to see this with Android in the fall.
too bad it does not have tilting screen... :(
Does the screen tilt like they did for the TyTN II and make such a big fuss about? Or have they abandoned that idea again?
Nice, and not much bigger than my aging i-mate SP5 smartphone!
SP5 dimensions: 107.5 x 46 x 17.5 mm
Touch Pro: 102 x 51 x 18.05 mm
So the Touch Pro is shorter in height, slightly wider, and slightly thicker than the old smartphone. Not bad if you ask me :)
And the Diamond: 102 x 51 x 11.35 mm
The Touch Pro is heavier though, but that's kinda expected at 165g compared with 106g for the SP5 and 110g for the Diamond.
But... but... no GPS??
EM didn't list it in their post, but HTC's site mentions it's GPS and AGPS ready so don't worry.
Now, I WANT THIS!!! Please bring it to the states ASAP.
In all honesty I would have preferred the numerical layout of the HTC Kaiser, the number row on top is really annoying for dialing phone numbers. The 8125 from HTC had that same layout and it was very annoying. Although nice to see they are starting to really bump up that ROM/RAM size. Also the 7.2 HSPA is very very nice.
I would think that you would use the touchscreen to dial phone numbers.
Nice phone! Rellay looking forward to this one.....From Wizard to Hermes to Kaiser to Diamond???? All of that in 4 Years.....
im assuming that verizon wont ever get this? cuz im looking for new phones, im due for an upgrade in august and wanted to know if i should just wait a few more months
this phone is nice but after seeing the htc dream and hearing it has a slide out keyboard. that is the real phone. this will be like a temp replacement for the p4000 aka mogul
slightly smaller than the Tilt in every dimension.
Would this be a Tytn III? or simply a new model?
i would say a whole new model
nce, except for the whole windows mobile thing.
I like WM6 and 6.1. Out of the box, they're mostly crap, but they are a tweaker's dream, especially compared to the iPhone... the potential is essentially limitless.
I love my Tilt, this looks damned sexy as well. It doesn't look like a huge improvement over the Tilt from a hardware perspective, though. Wait until the Snapdragon or Tegra phones start dropping...
that's exactly what i was thinking. this isn't enough to make me leave my tilt. also, don't forget about Samsung's SGH-i900.
This is HTC version of Sony X1.
Didn't Sony contract HTC to make the X1?
The Xperia X1 is made by HTC. Sony Ericsson just rebranded it and added their own interface... What HTC calls the Juno, you see as the T-Mobile Shadow, again with its own custom interface.
The specs are very similar to the X1. The bennefits of each as I see it are:
X1
Larger screen
Slightly thinner and lighter
All metal casing
Arc slider
Dedicated photo button (?)
HTC Tpro
TV-out
Accelerometer
5 row keyboard
Touch Flo UI
Anything I am missing?
Oops forgot a few things:
X1
Larger battery
Optical touch pad
HTC TPro
Better browser
plus:
Xperia: 256 ram
HTC Tpro: 288 ram
I m sure it will be possible to port the Touch Flo to xperia right?
Where are the softkeys?!?!?!
I thought a phone had to have them to be an official WinMo device?
HTC must hate mobile UI designers :(
No, softkeys are additional ways to access menus. A must for Windows Mobile Standard phone as it doesn't have touch screen. For Windows Mobile Professional phone, it is not neccessary as the phone has touch screen.
so, did anyone else notice that some shots show a forward-facing video cam, while others do not? any solid info on this?
I had heard a rumor of this phone under sprint...please let this be tru...cause if it is i am on this THE DAY is hit stores...does anyone know the exact date...
i hear that it will be coming to the u.s. possibly next summer
