Verizon snags LG Dare, Decoy and Chocolate 3
So, what do you do after announcing your intentions to spend nearly $30 billion on America's fifth largest carrier? Why, you announce a trio of new phones for the summertime, that's what. Verizon Wireless is trumpeting the launch of the Dare (pictured), Decoy and Chocolate 3, all of which are being provided by LG. As for the Dare, you'll find 3G, V CAST, VZ Navigator and a 3.2-megapixel camera, while the Decoy becomes the world's first handset with a Bluetooth headset integrated into its body. Finally, the Chocolate 3 goes all flip-phone on us and includes an FM transmitter, twin speakers, 1GB of internal storage, 2-megapixel camera and V CAST support. Unfortunately, VZW hasn't dished out official details on pricing just yet, but you can find out for sure when they go on sale later this month, June 16th and sometime in July (in order of mention).

Preeeetty.
I wonder when LG will come launch and update VOYAGER.
can't wait.
You're kidding, right?
To the guy asking about an update to the Voyager, Voyager 2 will be out around the same time Voyager came out, in November. It is being worked on as we speak. No other info is available right now. Before that, the Blackberry Thunder, which i think will be better the an the Dare will be out in September.
Voyager 2 is due Christmas this yr. ;)
Hopefully the cost of the LG Dare doesn't come in at $250 or higher, especially since the new Iphone is $199 (of course no data plan is required for the Dare). Assuming the reviews are good, I will probably pick up a Dare in the next few months using my NE2.
My best guess is that the Dare will cost about $100 more out the door than the 3G iPhone...
HOWEVER... the Dare will have a few key advantaged over said iPhone such as no required data plan, and for those who want a data plan it will be covered by the $15 a month V-Cast unlimited data pack.
I still haven't heard official word on whether AT&T's required $30 data plan will include texting or not but assuming it doesn't then VZW will have a serious advantage. For $30 at AT&T you can get unlimited data on your 3G iPhone, or for an extra $5 more at VZW you can get unlimited data AND unlimited messaging (SMS, MMS, IM) on your fancy new Dare or Voyager or Glyde.
Very interesting. How can you get unlimited text for an 5$ more?
$20 unl texting + $15 vcast unl data = $35, which is only $5 more that AT&T's $30 unl data only for the new 3G iPhone.
or you could get the unlimited email and navigator plan for $5 more than that. base + $20 for unl txt. +$20 for unl data, nav, mobile email.
You're kidding right? You're not really comparing a smartphone data plan to a standard POS phone data plan? What? You don't think ATT's standard data plans aren't ALSO 15/month. Puhh-leazzze
Not kidding at all. This iPhone is no more a smartphone than the Dare is. Paying twice as much for data is definitely a drawback for this new iPhone and a huge advantage for the Dare.
I hate to break your heart, but the Dare doesn't have a smartphone OS. Which means it's not a smartphone. As of the 2.0 firmware, the iPhone will be a full fledged smartphone (I mean as if it wasn't just as good as WinMo or Palm before but now with installable apps and 3G it will definitely be).
Don't lie, you know your WinMo phones also cost upwards of 40 dollars just for the data plan.
I would go to both sites and [rice each phone. I already went to ATT and got the full price for unlimited everything with GPS service. The final cost is $160.00. Without GPS its $150.00.
Verizon with unlimited everything plus v cast pack and v nav (GPS) cost is $140.00.
To me Verizon is a better network and it looks like the better deal. To be honest thou if Apple made the iphone for any network... i would buy if over the dare.
And connect it to the verizon network.
Yeah. I'd really love to pick up the LG Dare. I'm due for a new phone upgrade from my enV and as much as I would like an iPhone, I don't exactly want to switch over to AT&T. So this is prolly the closest i'm going to get.
Almost all of the information in the announcement has been previously leaked in one place or another on the interwebs. But with the official confirmation by Verizon, maybe now we'll get more concrete information.
i've been waiting for the decoy for my NE2, i like the bluetooth headset built in. but i might stick it out for the chocolate 3 for a release date and more information, and let reviews trickle in for the decoy.
decoy is one of the worst names for a phone i've ever seen.
Sean, there is an env(2) that may meet your needs. They are all great phones, with the env(2), Dare and Chocolate 3 all having over the air (OTA) management capabilities. This means that Verizon will be able to update the firmware on these phones remotely, sort of like Windows Update. Thus bug fixes and feature enhancements can be done over the air and the customer doesn't have to take the phone in to the shop to have it reflashed.
My company, InnoPath Software, supplies the device management client on the env(2), Dare and Chocolate, so I am biased.
If you would like to learn more about FOTA and updating firmware over the air, we have a whitepaper here: http://www.innopath.com/pdf/fota.pdf
Here's a good review I found of the Dare. By good I mean angry and by review I mean bashing of Verizon.

just another in the long line of "at&t is better because it has the iPhone. and the iPhone is better because it was the first of its' kind." ahem... no, it wasn't.
I have to be able to access my company e-mail through the phone. Does anyone know if it is possible, or will I have to forward messages to a POP3 email like gmail or something in order to get them?
verizon did come out with software where you are able to get your corp. email on the dare, along with other selected phones that aren't considered smartphones.
I was trying to reach one of the posters here from Innopath with the screenname FOTATime to ask him some more questions about FOTA capable phones on VZW. Thanks in advance tim@zoove.com
