Yes,
Fido and
Rogers have now both committed to bringing the
iPhone 3G to Canada on July 11, but let's be honest: that just means Rogers is getting the iPhone, since Fido
is Rogers. It's no coincidence, then, that both carriers will be offering the thing for $199 and $299 CAD (about $195 and $293) for the 8GB and 16GB models, respectively. There's a nasty catch, though: unlike AT&T in the States -- and presumably many other carriers offering the iPhone 3G on a heavy subsidy -- these puppies are going to tie you up for a full three years instead of the typical two. Canadian carriers and their customers are already well acquainted with the three-year contract concept, true, but that doesn't make it suck any less.

Is that monolith-shaped silhouette supposed to be an iPhone 3G???
yes, that silhouette is indeed supposed to be the iPhone 3G... sad
The thing with the 3-year contract, however, is that you don't have to wait the full term in order to get a decent price on an upgrade. Especially for people that spend over $60 a month and get large add-on packages.
Anyone know how much the data package is going to cost and what its going to offer? (the current package offers unlimited browsing... on a Rogers-branded WAP broswer!!!! :@ :@ :@ )
PS: the ad went up on the website just as the announcement was made (I swear they had somebody listening)
yeah, well i am constantly checking the website for updates and the banner on their site was up as soon as the iPhone 3G was announced at WWDC, but the "Learn More" button is just a link to their newsfeed and doesn't contain much about the actual iPhone. So there isn't much details on it yet.
man why is iphone exclusive to at&t in america..
when other countriesd NOT....
so many evil carriers in this country.... fxxk
Rogers=Fido
no difference
It's basically exclusive here--Fido is owned by Rogers, so it's the same company. Just different brands.
Also I can almost guarantee that the pricing structures will be identical on both carriers. Also it is being said that the 7$ unlimited browsing option will not be applicable on the iphone as it is considered a smartphone and customerscannot add this option to smartphones.
Well pity that they decided to force a three year down our throats.
I've been with Bell for ~6 years and even worked for them. I was considering switching over to rogers at the announcement of this but I refuse to sign a three year. Their loss, I guess...
