TomTom speaks up about iPhone situation
As if the iPhone 3G launch could really have any more misinformation floating around, we've got yet another tidbit that needs clarification. Shortly after Apple's second iPhone was announced, out flew a report from Reuters suggesting that TomTom already had iPhone navigation software ready to go. French site Mac Generation was able to get ahold of TomTom spokesperson Yann Lafargue, and here's the gist of what he had to say. First off, the aforementioned Reuters statement was said to be inaccurate, though he did affirm that an iPhone version of the software was running in the labs and working "pretty well." Unfortunately, the question of "will you guys ship this for the iPhone?" was answered with a "We don't know" style response, but he did clarify that the questionable SDK verbiage we saw wasn't an obstacle at all. Check out the full interview in the read link below -- hope you're fluent in French and / or machine translation!

Apple needs to get this handled. I'm not buying this thing if i can't use the GPS for navigation.
nice Home button
"No real time navigation". Why not ? What's the problem with that ?
The phone has a built-in GPS received but Apple says you can't use it for this.
I'm still looking for the "SMS Delivery Reports" feature, where is it ?
Apple said you can't use the SDK to make a real time navigation. That means you and me can't download the SDK and make our own navigation. TOMTOM may have made a deal with Apple on this. I don't know, just speculating.
I think that when NDA expires on July 11 we will know more of this and we will have some surprises (Nav'n Go (iGo 2008), do you know hear me?)
@rolivier and @plh2034
I think you missed something. The article clearly states that TomTom said that the "questionable SDK verbiage we saw wasn't an obstacle"
So it is basically up to TomTom whether they want to make an iPhone version.
@ lectoid
If you read the first article, you would have noticed that the verbiage is regarding Google Maps, not the iPhone SDK in general.
"Astute commenter Austin points out that these terms are copied almost word-for-word from the Google Maps API terms"
