Rogers' and FIDO's iPhone 3G pricing and data plans revealed?

Howardforums user i.Fido (purveyor of fine rumors on several occasions) seems to have let the cat out of the bag as to what Canadians are likely going to be shelling out for plans with the iPhone 3G launch on July 11. Pricing seems to be set at $199 and $299 for the 8GB and 16GB handsets as new activations or for upgrades to a qualifying 2 or 3-year plan. Yes, you'll also need to grab yourself a data and voice plan, and options include a $30 unlimited Consumer Data Plan -- it's about freakin' time -- or $45 Enterprise Data Plan. Both of these include Visual Voicemail when subscribed to a voicemail plan, though, only the Corp. plan seems to let you get at your Exchange server for push mail. Of course, all is not lost if you don't qualify for the upgrade, as the note goes on to say that "Rogers has not determined the price of the 3G device for non-qualified upgrades." so we can only hope. True to what we've already heard, activations will be done in-store, you'll only be allowed to pick up three at a time, and prepaid's a no-go. So now that those details have potentially been put to rest, tell us Canada, still getting iPhone 3G next month?

THREE years? You can get a shorter sentence that that for killing someone! No way I will buy an iPhone with a contract.
LOL. That is the most illuminating analogy about the wireless industry I've ever heard. Bravo!
That is funny ! It's true that in Canada our contracts are ridiculous.... 3 years became the new '2' a few years back.... at least with the iphone they didn't push for 4years.. ? no ? ok...
i'm still getting one because i'm a sucker.. but hey.. at least i know it.
ps- i'll still keep my 'obsolete' N95 8Gb

Sorry but you won't be able to get a hand of iPhone even if you are willing to sign a 3 years contract for some of the existing customers. LOL! If you are paying only around $30-$40 per month on your bill, you are consider low end customer for Fido/Rogers and upgrading a phone like iPhone will be impossible unless you have never ask for an upgrade for 3-4 years. LOL!!!!
Well at least the data plan looks good. Wonder what the voice plan will be - we still have to add on the voicemail package!! Will wi-fi hotspots be included?!?!
But it doesn't really matter - I'll be in line
How can people consider this data plan good when you can get unlimited data on the HTC Touch with bell for only $7 ?
@ Jason Keirstead
Because $7 "unlimited" is only through the bell browser, not any data.
Umm... Yea. After the Treo 600, HTC Universal, HTC TyTN, its the logic choice for a phone that I actually want to use.
I don't know why Rogers has waited until now to deliver a data plan that is competitive with.... anything. I still won't believe it until I get the bill in the mail and it isn't some ridiculous number.
Good to know the pricing - Maybe it wasn't clear to me, but I'm curious to know how this will play out for people such as myself, who already own and use an unlocked non-3G iPhone on Fido?
Jay, I'm getting an iphone with Fido in the mail. I said 'no' to the dataplan. Any tips to make sure that it doesn't swith between wifi and gsm as the fido representative was trying to scare me? It almost felt like a threat the way he kept repeating the high $ bill that I will end up with. I just want to make certain that 5cent/kilobyte doesn't come to haunt me later!
Woo! About friggin time. I have no problem signing up for a contract... I have no intention of using anybody but Rogers for my cell phone service in the near future any way... They're the only GSM provider in Canada (Fido aside, and let's face it - Fido == Rogers any way), and I have no intention of switching from GSM phones any time soon. So even if I don't have the iPhone for 3 years, chances are I'll be upgrading and extending my contract further. Oh well. No biggie IMO. Me wants iPhone!
At first I thought it was a good price, but when the average Rogers customer pays $70 WITHOUT data that would bring it to $100/month! I think its a little out of my price range for that much! BAH! Rogers doesn't have unlimited SMS either anymore...correct?
thank good series telephone
Sadly this is looking like what might be the price for data on Rogers moving forward (unless the iPhone gets an exclusive deal):
Non-flex plan: $15 for 2MB (hitting the YouTube button once?), $25 for 4MB, $30 for 300MB, $60 for 1GB, $80 for 3GB, and $100 for 6GB?!
Flex plan: $50 for 500MB, $65 for 1GB, $85 for 3GB, and $100 for 5GB?!
Check out the Rogers slide:

do you have to sign up for the data plan when first purchasing the iphone ? and if you have to then would you be able to call and cancel your data plan after a couple days? my rogers bills are already around $60-$70 and i dont feel like adding on another $30 to it, which would be around $1200 a year.
No, but only because I despise Rogers. I'll wait until the spectrum's opened up to American companies and then I'll think about it - if there's a 32Gb iPhone model.
Flex is the current plan, though, rener. We all know that Rogers had to toe up to unlimited data in order to have Apple work with them -- The iPhone is unusable on mobile without (esp. with all the new push features, GSM, and streaming video).
Anyone have any idea as to how they are going to deal with someone who JUST signed a 3 year contract a few months ago? I bought a vision phone and promptly sold it -- I really only wanted the sim/contract for my first gen iPhone (which I sold 2 days before the announcement) -- Do you think they'll let me RE-UP my contract?
How long is your "JUST"? Is it over 30 days and your account over 30 minutes of talk time? If it is, then they WON'T let you get another phone in 12 months period. Not only that, even if you wait 12 months period (2009), you won't pay $199 for 8GB iPhone, you will be paying $399(maybe even more and not less).
If I were you I would throw the account to your friend and get yourself a new activation. It doesn't matter how many years you have been with Fido/Rogers, new activation always get the best deal. Good luck. :)
Oops, I meant to say GPS, heh. This is what happens when I need a 12 step program for iPhone withdrawls. Someone, stop my DTs ;)
Why is the top curved like a BlackBerry? I know that the date is the iPhone 3G release, but judging from their ad, it looks like a BlackBerry of some sorts. Here comes the downvotes...
The $30/300MB and up plans are NOT FOR THE FIDO/ROGERS iPhones.
