Blackberry Bold release date delayed?
According to reports crossing the wires this morning, Research In Motion is expected to delay the release of its next-gen BlackBerry Bold. The Boy Genius is claiming that software issues, battery life problems, and overheating are causing the hold-up, which will move the street date back to mid-August as opposed to the presumed July release on AT&T. There's been no confirmation from RIM on the news, but that's not stopping analysts from predicting the move will lower the company's second quarter earnings outlook. We're pretty sure it'll make businessmen with twitchy thumbs none-too-happy as well.

Well, that settles it for me.
I've been in the market for a new phone for about 3 months now. 2 months ago I was torn between the Bold, the 3G iPhone, and the Treo 850. Last month, as more details came out, the Treo dropped off the list (32MB of RAM? 256MB storage? Are you kidding me? Has Palm learned nothing from the 700/750?), and I've been back and forth between the Bold and the iPhone for a few weeks now.
My situation has become more dire - my Treo 700w crashes every time I try to make a call if I've run any application beyond Outlook since my last reset, and my battery isn't lasting more than 12 hours on standby (a real issue for a road-warrior like myself).
Now that the Bold is getting pushed back, I think it's a done deal. Sorry RIM, but time waits for no one! (To sweeten the deal, my boss told me flat out he doesn't want me to go with the iPhone, so _of course_ I'm going to get one).
I'll see you all at an AT&T store on 11 July! (speaking of which, are there any rumours about stock? I leave the office around 6 every day - if I'm at the AT&T store around 7 or 8, will they still have these? Anyone have any links?)
Aaron, I understand ur dilemna. I was torn myself. but just a suggestion have u checked the older model the blackberry curve? great RAM great battery (have gone 36hrs on standby and then just plugged in to charge because it was convenient) i can't live without it now. lol
Probably for the best, considering it would have gone toe-to-toe with Apple’s latest – a battle not even the Hulk could have won.
a computer beats a phone manufacturer to the table with a 3g device.
embarassing. rim sucks
p.s. im in canada and think its not only embarrassing they let apple beat them with a 3g device with only one year experience of making phones. but apple will also beat them with HTML email as has windows mobile and email is "supposed" to be their specialty. Its also embarassing that the majority of customers in canada are cdma and a cdma bold will take a year?. Rim will never get a penny of my money. they look alot like palm to me right now
You're ticked that RIM is going to take a year to make a CDMA bold? Atleast RIM is making a CDMA device for you, which is alot more than Apple is doing for you.
You honestly think that Apple has only had 1 year experience at making phones? They may have 1 year selling phones but i can guarantee you that they have been making and testing phones for alot longer than a year.
Don't kid yourself RIM is a great company making great products they are one of the fastest growing phone makers, and Im proud they are Canadian.
And last time i saw you on howard forums you were using a blackberry so don't act like none of your money is going to RIM, it already has.
Good news for Nokia. That E71 will appeal to people who need a QWERTY. Assuming, of course, that Nokia can release a US 3G version at the same time they release one for the rest of the world.
yeah RIM I hope you guys can get the software straight before the IPhone launch or soon after (like release it on the 12th for $50 after MIR soon after) or else this baby will be pretty much forgotten into the Thunder comes out for Big Red
@MIKE
1 i dont care about apple. they are a fancy toy that has little substance. doesnt matter how long the iphone has been in production they have beat rim at their own game and that is why they are so steadily approaching rim subscriber base.
2 they are no longer one of the fastest anything. go to wmexpert.com nice read about rim.
3. rim lacks creativity with their products. 8700- 8800 to bold all look the same. they finally switched things up for the kickstart FINALYYYYYYYY. the thunder BGR did a mock up of a wild guess of what the thunder would look like. and guess what it turned out to be right. that shows rim has little creativtity.
4. im all over howardforums and up until 2 days ago i had all my phones ever used posted and ill recite them for you
sanyo scp 4500 (first phone), lg tm520, samsung a520, lg 5450, motorola i730, moto i830, moto i850, moto i860, moto i870, moto i880 (current), moto q, and htc p4000 (current)
2 current phones htc p4000 and motorola i880.
tell me where u see a rim product in there? NEVER will i give them a penny. so get ur facts right. everyone knows on hofo i dont use rim and i will not use rim. how does it take them a year to switch a gsm chip for a cdma chip? theyve been at this for years and they cant do it faster? get the hell out of here. rim sucks they can take their crap and shove Theres a reason that they are only ahead of palm in total users and apple is about to pass them.
haha, you're delirious if you really think apple is about to pass RIM in total subscribers...how about doing a little fact checking. and just because BGR was able to come up with a mockup of what the Thunder would look like after receiving word on exactly where the buttons were shows they have little creativity? you're the moron that actually uses htc phones that are using 10y/o touchscreen technology and have looked identical for 4 years...the only thing different on the Tilt from the 8125 that was released 4 years ago, which is their top of the line phone is that the screen actually tilts.and are you really going to brag about using some POS motorola phone that sprint/nextel gave you? ha, you're too funny
Will
your comments definitely show your ignorance.
Apple is approx at what 6 miilion subscribers. rim has 8million their last quarter announcement they provided these figures so my information is very accurate. rim's been at it for how long? apple in one year is right on their tail. so YOU get your facts right.
no i am not with your crappy sprint nextel i am with telus in canada thank you very much i guessed u missed that along with your logic.
im the moron that uses HTC phones? since HTC sold well over a 1 mullion touches not including any of their other phones I guess there are alot of morons. Whether you like windows mobile or not i could careless. It works for me does what it needs to do. And i can do anything a rim device can do better. U didnt state what u use but im a guess ur a a blackberry fanboy so u can play with ur blackberry with its crappy cartoon like menu constant gps issues. 4 releases of the pearl that have little difference between them. and try browsing a real site or doing anything without rims permission. oh and how are those service blackouts
you do realize that RIM owns 44% of the smartphone marketshare right? as opposed to apple's 19%...these numbers being Q1 2008 numbers. and according to RIM they have approximately 14 million total subscribers, so i'd say a) your facts are wrong b) it's gonna take a lot more than 1 iphone model to surpass them anytime soon. and you make such a big deal about how many Touch's HTC sold and somehow that proves that they're a great company with great phones...stop contradicting yourself, you can't say that blackberry sucks and lacks innovation when they're phones sell many times that.
and yes i do carry the Curve, but i have an iphone as well. and i get by just fine with opera mini browser on my curve. i love being able to customize my icons so that my phone doesn't look exactly like everybody's that has the same model. and i've never had 1 single gps issue.
P.S. Will
ill take a screen that tilts up which is actually innovative. to the same for factor rim has been spitting out for the last 5 years (safe for the pearl).
and iden does the job for me i live in a large city (toronto) i have no coverage issues. the rate plans are actually better than the regular pcs planand the phones are more durable.
and i love the fact im a moron for using a touchscreen...hmm yet whats that device called thunder hmmmmmmm banwagon jumper i say rim is.
joshua i would loveeee for you to post the comment engadget posted when one of the rim ceos said touchscreen phones they dont need
Is it just me, or is the screen on the Blackberry TINY?!?!?
A delay for AT&T means a delay in the phone eventually reaching the two carriers I have, Sprint & T-mo. I may not like AT&T but along with Verizon, at least they are making available products that don't look either contrived, cheap, or outdated.
Will
well i was wrong. i had last checked prior to that announcement and it had said 8million and im guessing u looked on wikipedia like i just did to see the 14.
i gave u the amount of touches because u said im an idiot for using htc i simply stated that must mean there are a lot of idiots since windows mobile more than doubles rim in phones.
3 u say u can customize ur phone to not look like everyone elses. are u SERIOUSLY trying to say a blackberry is more customizable than a windows mobile phone? i think Jim basille got something in ur eye when u were on ur knees to even have the audacity to suggest that
Geez!!!
It's clear you two are wildly attracted to each other, so why don't you give US all a break and get a room where the 2 of you can measure and compare your manhood in private, and we can get this forum back on track!!!
Please!!!!
