HTC Touch Pro gets handled, keyboard better than X1's?
The question on quite literally every WinMo fanatic's mind as we go into the second half of the year here is, "Touch Pro or X1?" It's not an easy question to answer, and anyone hoping to sink some cash on either one of these models in a few months is going to want to do so with a crap-ton of research and anecdotal information under their belts lest the buyer's remorse set in particularly quickly. MobileBurn scored an early look at the Touch Pro -- which won't be available at retail for a month or three yet -- and came away impressed with the all-important keyboard, saying that it was "much more" usable than the QWERTY found on Sony Ericsson's rival superphone. Closed, it's said to be virtually indistinguishable from the Touch Diamond (which we'd say is a good thing) other than being a bit thicker to accomodate they keyboard and picking up a matte-finish rear cover. Unfortunately, HTC refused to show off the Touch Pro's interface -- apparently on account of some new tricks up TouchFLO 3D's sleeve that haven't already made their way into the Touch Diamond -- but they did share that the new model will handle landscape mode with particular aplomb. So this one might have the X1 beat in the keyboard department, but the X1's WVGA display takes the crown for sheer pixel count. Decisions!

I'd like someone to ask HTC if their going to screw their customers over again by leaving out something like graphics hardware acceleration from these new devices (both being made by HTC). Someone should find out what hardware they're using in the Touch Pro and X1, what features that hardware supports and ask HTC which of these features will be enabled/available and which will be disabled/unavailable.
it might come down to Carrier and Pricing..i still like Sony's better from what i have seen, but until they are in my hand for me to play with and pricing\carrier in mind; no decision to come
From my experince, you can never go wrong with HTC, but then again Sony is just as reputable of brand name. Decisions decisions... for you guys atleast, not for me. Me.. I'm getting the amazing i900. Bigger disply, more onboard sorage, revolutionary interface, sleeker design, divix certified, heavily intergrated accelerometer, etc. etc. The best phone ever. Sleeping Giant. Who would've ever thought Samsung + Microsoft = amazing device.
The i900 doesn't have a physical keyboard. Comparing Apples to Oranges.
@Torqueo
And who says I can't compare Apples to Oranges, whe you guys compare Apple to Microsoft.
@frankie
wow. when the htc dream comes out, you're gonna be pretty pissed at yourself for getting the x1.
Any word on US Carrier?
yeah they said that the touch diamond and the touch pro would land on sprint first a while back. and with the simply everything plan and them really cleaning up there act with customer service thats going to be sweet.
the Sony is made by HTC also, so brand matters little here.
one of the major drawbacks with the keyboard as others have mentioned is the lack of START, OK keys which the xperia has.
another drawback is smaller LCD screen and lower resolution than xperia.
this also is bigger and weighs a bit more
I'm going to go out on a limb here and say that they didn't disable buttom mapping, which, if it is the case. You can map that button with the House symbol to be your "start" key, and that
ive already decided i want this phone and i will wait as long as it takes. but at this point which ever one comes to verizon first might me my choice
You will get dissapointed hoping Verizon to carry this awesome device. I've been with Verizon (and I still am) for some time, they will never carry the latest and coolest phones, they are too proud with their network and neglecting customers who want cool phones. Which is why AT&T took over their position as the #1 US carrier. I also have another line (T-Mo) for GSM phones. Everybody knows GSM phones are cool and CDMA phones suck and always get crippled by Verizon.
What is taking HTC so long to put a 4 inch screen on these things...
What is taking HTC so long to put a 4 inch screen on these things...
Drool.
I want this phone now, please HTC?
I am having this very dilemma myself (although someone threw Samsung F480 into the pot)....
On looks alone I prefer the X1, I love the arc slide design, I think having that slight arc when its open will prove very handy.
Release dates will prove a problem however as (in the UK) they could be released up to 4 months apart - the Pro at the end of August, and X1 as late as xmas pending software problems.
Functionality and usability will win out in the end though.
Depending on if I can wait long enough to compare the 2 handsets in the flesh!
Will there be wifi on the touch pro?
