We're not sure where our tipster got these pictures (nor are we going to ask), but they appear to be screens from the
Treo 800w's specification and knowledge training documentation. New tidbits include a 333 Mhz processor, 4.4.1 x 2.28 x 0.73-inch dimensions, and a weight of 4.94 ounces. Windows Mobile 6.1 looks to be in full-force, the camera shoots at 2 MP, and the USB port is 2.0. As for other revealed features, you're looking at threaded SMS chat, but MMS is mysteriously missing in lieu of Sprint Picture Mail, a trend that continues to confuse us. If all this pans out, look for the 800w to be
available on July 13th for $249.99. Hit the continue link to see the rest of the juicy shots and details.
[Thanks, brian]
Why "micro" usb, and not the industry standard "mini" usb?!
I got to handle a working 800w on Thursday of last week. I am generally not a Palm fan at all, but this is a pretty slick device. I stacked this device with a Centro that the palm rep had also brought... and the shape, and size were VERY similar. Its no I-Phone, or no BB Bold, but a HUGE improvement from the Treos of years past.
To irritate us for no good reason!
Ummmm... Micro USB was agreed to last year to become the industry standard... according to my count, Moto, LG, Sanyo and others have gotten on board, with Samsung to follow up later this year.
It's no Iphone? Thankfully so. I am able to open and edit attachments and resend them. I really wanted to get an Iphone, but as a journalist it just didn't do what I "needed" it to do. The 800w is not a toy.
I am glad I jump Shipped to Windows Mobile instead.
If this thing ran Windows mobile palm would have a chance. Too bad they are stuck with Palm OS and don't consider using a modern os like Windows Mobile 6.1
this IS windows mobile you fucking retard. ARE YOU BLIND? LOOK AT THE PICTURES!
How's that knee of yours? Still jerking?
How's that knee of yours? Still jerking?
What's with the F-bomb, Yode? More offensive is the "retard". THere are some folks out there with (kids that have) Down syndrome. It's like the n- word.
John, it is Windows Mobile 6.1, thats why this is such a big deal. Wifi and Windows Mobile
Palm's ability to keep pace with itself is the very reason why it lost $43.3M in the most recent quarter report and has sales volume 25% BELOW that of 1 year ago.
As any athlete knows, you only improve by being trained by those better than yourself.
But why does it say SD/SDHC vs just SDHC. Being that the SDHC is backwards compatible with SD (though not the other way around) then shouldn't SDHC be sufficient?
Believe me, some people don't make that connection.
Still kind of fat compared to competitor models that have been out for a couple of years. Jeez. It beats the original chubby Treos by a little, but it's like it lost motivation halfway through its diet. I think it looks fine from the front, at least.
Back when they announced the new OS, they said they'd start developing new hardware that could work with either the current or forthcoming OS (in addition to some kind of merging of support for the two, if I understood correctly). And we've had the centro and this thing since then. Do we know if these are in that hardware category? I wouldn't want either for other reasons, but I'm wondering about people who buy just before the new OS, assuming the rollout date doesn't slide right out of the decade. Seems like it would be safest to wait until the new OS comes out before considering any new purchase. I guess people do go through phones more quickly these days, though.
Heh, I took that training just yesterday. You can tell Palm wrote it, rather than Sprint.
Looks like the Palm from 2 years ago is still kicking. Too bad it's two years ago specs too.
I have been using the Palm OS for a long time and have the Treo 755P is it time to switch to windows? if so...are there ways to download all my addresses, calender , memos etc. I am sure most of my software will not work...thanks
This could be such a fantastic platform if they did two things: 1.) flush capacitive touchscreen, 2.) keep the HW keyboard, lose all the buttons above it. (Replace them with soft-keys if you must, but a gesture-driven interface would be better.) Now you're left with room for a 320x480 screen like the you-know-what. This gives you the advantage of the HW keyboard, and you don't lose half the screen when you need to type.
As sexy/tempting as the you-know-what 3G is, I think I'm getting one of these for two reasons: keyboard & multitasking 3'rd party apps.
At last! As rediculous as it seems, I have been waiting for this phone for a year now! It was a bit frustrating because rumors had it coming out at the beginning of the year. Many have said that this thing is behind the times, but non of Sprint's other devices put it all together quite as well as the 800w. A one handed full qwerty keyboard is essential. Other phones sacrifice function for aesthetic appeal. I prefer the 800w because it will get the job done. The only show-stopper is that it must fit slimly in the pocket, and while this device isn't the thinnest, it appears thin enough. It's slightly thicker than others, but that should hopefully give it much better battery life than my current phone which dies within an hour.
Well im pretty excited for this phone, Ive been a fan of ANY palm phone for a while now . First started with my 700wx, then a 755p, and now Im on my Centro. When this releases, I'll definitely be looking into this one, even though I LOVE the performance of PALM OS much better than WM, WM does have some nice exclusive apps and personally I like the way it integrates with my PC a little easier. So I'll be down for trying this one out, until something new comes out a couple months later in which I'll grab that one !
It would be nice if you could keep the profanity out.
Its pretty obvious where he got this tip sheet from. Like me...he works for sprint. We have access to this for a few weeks now. BUT i do rememeber signing a waiver not to release any information on ANY new product untill sprint does. Good job jackass...hope your 2 minutes of fame as a spy is worth the unemployment check
Again, NO BIG CLOCK ON THE HOME SCREEN?!!! Come on guys! I guess I am one of the few that actually likes Sprint Treos, but the main complaint that I have is no large clock on the home screen. Gimme a break!
Hey Michael, I wonder if you could get a different launcher that gave you the ability to have your big clock. I remember there being different third party launchers/desktops for Palm that replaced or masked the built-in one. Maybe the same is available for WinMo?
Dude, search for "Palm Big CLock" and relax. You seem a bit neurotic, although easily asuaged, .
are they gonna make this damn thing mac compatible for a change or the usual b/s i have to deal with ?
Kookoobirdz - There are programs like SPB Mobile Shell which I am now using. It doesn't work very well with the 800w (picked one up yesterday), but it works good enough until there is an update. I just didn't want to have to use third party if I didn't have to.
John - the word is assuaged - don't hurt yourself. And, all I want is a large clock on the Today screen. Being neurotic has nothing to do with anything.
I love my Sprint Palm Treo 700p. This is my first Treo and I love the Palm operating system especially after Sprint did a software update. Now everything integrates even better. On occasion it hangs and will cause a restart of the entire phone, but it is "rare" (about once every three months).
I work with an insurance company that is going to the Windows Mobile environment, so I'm glad that Palm came out with the 800w. It seems to have the best of both worlds. Although I like the Palm OS system, I DO look forward to web pages working better on the 800w in a Windows environment. I especially look forward to easier operation of using web2mail interface for email, Outlook calendar, contacts, etc.
Palm just seems to really think things through and design a phone/OS to WORK instead of just be "pretty." Pretty is ok if I'm not trying to upload a life app or a securities application, give a quote on the fly, or integrate with company website to create a financial analysis for a new client. I hope that loss of the knobby antenna won't cause a problem for reception. I don't mind the extra bulk and weight in exchange for extended coverage. Sometimes I'm in the middle of nowhere and really NEED to call out or get directions from my phone.
According to other reviews of the 800w, I will lose some one-handed navigation capabilites, but I don't mind the trade-off for more functionality. I look forward to getting my new phone and using it to the fullest!
