Jeez. It beats the original chubby Treos by a little, but it's like it lost motivation halfway through its diet. I think it looks fine from the front, at least.

Back when they announced the new OS, they said they'd start developing new hardware that could work with either the current or forthcoming OS (in addition to some kind of merging of support for the two, if I understood correctly). And we've had the centro and this thing since then. Do we know if these are in that hardware category? I wouldn't want either for other reasons, but I'm wondering about people who buy just before the new OS, assuming the rollout date doesn't slide right out of the decade. Seems like it would be safest to wait until the new OS comes out before considering any new purchase. I guess people do go through phones more quickly these days, though.

kookoobirdz

Comments on Treo 800w spec sheets and training materials reveal details, lack of MMS

Heh, I took that training just yesterday. As rediculous as it seems, I have been waiting for this phone for a year now! It was a bit frustrating because rumors had it coming out at the beginning of the year. Many have said that this thing is behind the times, but non of Sprint's other devices put it all together quite as well as the 800w. A one handed full qwerty keyboard is essential. Other phones sacrifice function for aesthetic appeal. I prefer the 800w because it will get the job done. The only show-stopper is that it must fit slimly in the pocket, and while this device isn't the thinnest, it appears thin enough. It's slightly thicker than others, but that should hopefully give it much better battery life than my current phone which dies within an hour.

utdmatt

Comments on Treo 800w spec sheets and training materials reveal details, lack of MMS

Well im pretty excited for this phone, Ive been a fan of ANY palm phone for a while now . When this releases, I'll definitely be looking into this one, even though I LOVE the performance of PALM OS much better than WM, WM does have some nice exclusive apps and personally I like the way it integrates with my PC a little easier. This is my first Treo and I love the Palm operating system especially after Sprint did a software update. Now everything integrates even better. On occasion it hangs and will cause a restart of the entire phone, but it is "rare" (about once every three months).

I work with an insurance company that is going to the Windows Mobile environment, so I'm glad that Palm came out with the 800w. It seems to have the best of both worlds. Although I like the Palm OS system, I DO look forward to web pages working better on the 800w in a Windows environment. I especially look forward to easier operation of using web2mail interface for email, Outlook calendar, contacts, etc.

Palm just seems to really think things through and design a phone/OS to WORK instead of just be "pretty." Pretty is ok if I'm not trying to upload a life app or a securities application, give a quote on the fly, or integrate with company website to create a financial analysis for a new client. I hope that loss of the knobby antenna won't cause a problem for reception. I don't mind the extra bulk and weight in exchange for extended coverage. Sometimes I'm in the middle of nowhere and really NEED to call out or get directions from my phone.

According to other reviews of the 800w, I will lose some one-handed navigation capabilites, but I don't mind the trade-off for more functionality. I look forward to getting my new phone and using it to the fullest!

G
