Motorola's worldly Q9: "Napoleon" breaks cover for Verizon
It looks like Motorola and Verizon are getting ready to take a third crack at the Q9 form factor, following up the Q9m and Q9c -- and this time around, there's a little something extra in store. On top of the EV-DO Rev. A radio, the so-called "Napoleon" (codename, of course) features GSM, because -- surprise, surprise -- businesspeople who use Windows Mobile devices tend to do just a bit of traveling. It looks like Moto has taken this opportunity to give the Q9 meme a little nip-tuck job, too, with a rounded body and a tastefully-applied ring of chrome around the top edge. They've even tossed in a fingerprint scanner for good measure, a tip o' the hat to the suits who'll undoubtedly populate the upper 90 percent of this sucker's client base. No word on a release date or price, but can we cautiously submit a thumbs-up for the design direction here?

is that a trackball like on the blackberrys? also, any estimate as to a release date on this (even a month would be great)- i have 3 days to decided whether or not i wanna keep the Q9c... thanks!
I think it's just a regular button in the center of a D-pad.
"tastefully applied ring of chrome" - also known as the "iphone copycat bandwagon"
but actually good call on motorola's part. the Q9 wasnt a bad looking phone and this is pretty sharp. dont know about the blue color though. and ive long thought the Q9 series had one of the best keyboards on the market.
No kidding. And they had the audacity to add a GSM radio!
Freakin' iPhone Clones. Where will it end?

How is this an iPhone clone? Its different in so many ways. It actually has a frickin keyboard, unlike the iPhone.

It's called, sarcasm... -_-
"a rounded body and a tastefully-applied ring of chrome around the top edge"
I think everybody else's Q9c already had the rounded body and the chrome. Actually, other than the chrome, I'm not sure this body is any different than the CDMA-only Q9c Verizon already has.
But I have to say I'm very impressed with the specs on this device. I believe this will be the first Windows Standard 6 device with WiFi; a major step forward.
And not only that, but the GSM radio has US bands in there as well and it does EDGE, not just GRPS.
wait what? htc has been building windows 6 mobile phones with wifi for years now.
The body of this phone actually lacks about 1/4" of "empty space" around the keyboard that the Q9C has, so there was actually a little nip tuck going on. A good move, IMO.

I think they were being sarcastic. at least, I hope they were. if not, then hopefully people will realize someday that the IPHONE WAS NOT THE FIRST DEVICE EVER MADE. AND JUST BECAUSE SOMETHING IS SIMILAR DOESNT MEAN THEY ARE COPYING, IT JUST MEANS THAT APPLE DID IT FIRST. AND EVEN THEN, PROBABLY NOT.
hah
Wait so does this mean you can use verrizon an on iphone cuz there is a gsm radio? is there a sim card slot on this phone?
no. it means you can take the phone to europe/other countries with GSM and use their networks. its primary radio is CDMA/EVDO

Does anyone know if the Q9m could do SongID on verizon (bec. it had a form of VCAST), off topic, but a question that has been bugging me bec i'm looking for a smart phone with that feature, thx
