Nokia offering 96 N96 handsets in limited edition packaging
Nokia's latest promotion isn't the most enthralling we've ever seen, but two aspects in particular stand out. First, those fortunate enough to be able to drop €759 ($1,206) on an N96 will be helping the WWF project to save the red pandas in Nepal. Secondly, the Face The Task website designed to highlight the limited edition kit is worth viewing for kicks alone. From what we can gather, 96 well-packaged N96 mobiles will be made available at the aforesaid price, but nothing about the device itself will be special. You will, however, receive a limited edition ash tree box in a raw silk bag along with an 8GB microSD card. Worth it? That's up to you.

Heck no, not worth it to me. IMO, the box will already come damaged from the drop-shippers I order my phone from :P
I'm not really bothered what it comes in, as long as it works straight out the box and doesn't require firmware updates every 5 minutes after release.
People will pay this price just to have a limited packaging version. And if Nokia is giving something back to the wildlife then I suppose it's a worthy action.
What it doesn't say is that everyone else gets their shiny new N96 in a reusable carrier bag complete with biodegradable manual! ;-)
Pandas! :)
Red Pandas!
I hope to god that price ($1,206) for the N96 is just for the limited edition, I thought is was going to be around 600 to 700, max 900$ phone?
If it is the price of the phone, it makes the Xperia X1 really good in the hopes of value, or even the c905 for that mater if you want a better camera.
Does anybody know if that's official?
Not worth it IMO.

Umm yes worth it.
I spewed out $850 on the N95 8GB when it came out. Not dissapointed at all since I got it. So spending that much isn't unreasonable to me. See what you get anyways.
16GB internal memory, plus another 8GB SD card..come on. 24GB phone that can (if your in Europe) watch live TV and is a absolute beast of a smartphone, well worth it.
Plus, if you live over there anyways, O2, Voda, and Orange; they subsidize the crap out of Nseries phones if I am not mistaken. So on contract, that 759 euros becomes some 300 euros maybe.
The way I read it on the site is you donate that full amount to WWF at the appropriate time and thusly are able to get a phone in return. If that full amount goes to support the foundation, I think that's absolutely fantastic!
