Nokia's North American E71 now available at Chicago flagship store
Call it a hunch, but you shouldn't have to wait too awfully long (like, hours / days / weeks) to secure Nokia's North American E71 today. Said handset is now available at the company's flagship store in Chicago, complete with a QWERTY keyboard and US-friendly 3G. Eager to grab one? Total cost will be $483 (plus tax) in addition to a roundtrip ticket to Chi-town, considering the store won't ship to out-of-towners (or so we hear).

Still no BB connect... so sad
the BB E61i software is at http://www.businesssoftware.nokia.com/blackberry_downloads.php
theres gotta be a way to get it to run on an e71, no? i mean, theyre both s60. i dunno much about the different s60 editions though. i was able to load the s80 9300 BB software on my 9500. never did end up using it though. lol.
i dont get the purpose of bb. extra $45 per month for what? the nokia software works just great. ya people talk about push email and whatnot. but the way i look at it, youre only going to *check if you have new email* at the moments you look down to *check if you have new email*. lol! so what is so hard about just hitting a send/receive or connect button? or just setting it to auto check every so often? why pay extra for your device to say you have new messages during the moments youre not even looking down at it?
anyway, im not too excited about the e71. i just want to know WHERE IS MY US 3G E90!??!?!
Loving mine the past week, no need for bb playing around with nokia email beta their push email client.
Won't even ship? No wonder Nokia is hurting in the US.
BB connect? M4E is better for attachments. and the Nokia email client is real nice
The other option is Mail for Exchange. Similar to the iphone you can set up your exchange server. It quite simple to do. The device is real slim and nice the camera takes good phones for a 3 Mega Pixel with out focus. Plus you can view, edit and save attachments.
it has focus but just hard to out how to use it initially.(use the letter "T" to focus)
Why oh why is it not in NYC or Miami yet?
Yay! I got mine last night! So happy I live in Chicago!! :-)
So far I am loving it. Never used Symbian so it's all new to me. But it is definitely gorgeous and fast and makes my Treo look like a boat anchor. Also, the reviews said the keyboard was really tiny. I can tell U that it is - but I still type great on it. I was actually really surprised. The keys have an excellent feel to them.
I'm loving my E71!!!
carrier?
I live in Miami, but travel to NY often and I'm going to be there next week. So I called the NY flagship store and this is what they just told me.
They had a list that's already closed of people who will be attending a product launch event on Thursday. They anticipate that all units will be sold right there and then, but in the even they are not, they will give me a call on Friday so that I can go pick up my unit. Problem is I won't be in New York until Sunday night. The good news, however, is that they are receiving another shipment sometime next week! :-)
I love my E62, but I hate the xpress mail product that Cingular (AT&T) has loaded on it. It doesn't work 100% of the time, though it does work more consistently than it did a year ago. Still, I'm not about to pay full pricefor a phone when my contract is up for renewal. Unless Nokia and AT&T make nice, it looks like I'm headed for a Blackberry later this year.....
www.popularelect.com aka Popular Electronics got them i know cause i got mine.
For current [lucky] owners:
I own an E61 and an E61i (as well as other S60 Nokias) and I also started this petition:
http://www.petitiononline.com/NokiaE71/petition.html (please do take the time to sign it)
This is only to say that I love S60 and Nokias, especially QWERTY Nokias. I have been following the E71 since rumors of an E61i replacement started popping up here and there and I am completely into the idea of getting the E71 as soon as I can. I am on a list in the NY flagship store to be called as soon as they become available (next week most likely).
Now, am I really the only one that things the native mail client is crap, especially when using IMAP IDLE? Please read this thread for more details. It would be great to hear the opinion of current owners.
