My two cents... I read engadget multiple times per day as well as BGR and I see all the Iphone fan boys defend their product as if someone was speaking of their mother and the same goes for Blackberry fans, At&T Fans and Verizon fans. I personally have used Verizon for the past few years and have been totally satisfied with coverage and all aspects of their company except for product offerings until recently. I think VZW has heard the readers and bloggers loud and clear and have brought some great new products since the beginning of the year. I am an informed customer an know there is virtually NO difference in pricing between Big Red and Big Blue and I don't mind paying if it satisfies my needs. With all that being said I have a BB curve with verizon and I LOVE this device, RARELY drop a call and the EVDO penetration is by far a strong point. With this being said I AM NOT a fan boy of ANYONE except myself and what works. With all the hype of the Iphone I decided to purchase my first Iphone (16GB 3G) with no intentions of cancelling my BB with Verizon but thought the iphone would be a nice addtition. I have had my iphone with ATT service for over a week now and I will say the iphone is one slick device!! However, I agreed totally it needed an update on the firmware, it's flakey at times and was not the PERFECT device the die-hard fan boys made it out to be. Again, I love the phone and look forward to loading the update and enjoying the benefits. I can hands down say for texting and emailing the blackberry is by far a superior device. I have friends with iphones who text constantly and I can blow them away in speed of typing with a real keyboard as opposed to the touchscreen. Sure there are fanboys that can't type fast on the iphone, but the average consumer will have an easier time with texting with the bb or any real keyboard. What many people in here don't realize is they are not the common user, myself and friends are the mainstream. However, as for sure joy of playing with a device, the iphone is VERY enjoyable. The lack of MMS and CUT AND PASTE simply baffles me on the iphone. To myself and my mainstream friends MMS is critical on a phone and anyone that says Apple didn't drop the ball on this, your are simply not being truthful. This is a mainstream feature and I have found myself pulling out my BB to take pics instead of the iphone because you can send the damn pic with the iphone. Just STUPID!.... Hardware conclusion, all phones have strong points and bad points, but I could never use the iphone full time, but I do love to play with the kewl applications..... THE BIGGEST difference is what I consider to be the most important aspect of owning a mobile phone period, can I make a phone call and keep the call!!!! As with any mobile company there will particular places where one works better than the other, however with this post I am speaking of overall user use in several different areas not "my house or community" as I hear so often in here. In Metro Atlanta, Metro Ft. Lauderdale/Miami and western half of NC there is NO DOUBT Verizon's service is FAR superior! I have dropped more calls in the last week with the iphone than I have in ALL the years I have been with Verizon. Again, I have NO alliance to either company and still love my iphone and will keep it and enjoy the phone. But if I have to make an important phone call there is no doubt which phone I grab, my BB on Verizon. Sorry guys I am NOT here to bash At&t in the least, I just wanted to give you a real consumer opinion. As for the 3G coverage, again it's not even close! If you are outdoors it seems to do ok, but more times than not if you step inside you will lose the 3G, while looking at my BB on Verizon it's on 3G 99% of the time indoors or out. Even while on the golf course this weekend the course is located WELL within the ATLANTA 3G footprint, if I was in very wooded area I would lose my 3G, once in the open fairway, BOOM full 3G on the iphone. With my Verizon had 3G 100% of the time. I am simply posting this to all the haters from both sides that each has strong points, however on the actual coverage there is just simply no question which service is more reliable to talk on. People can say what they wish and I have to say I was hesitant to believe all the tests from Consumer Reports and other publications insisting Verizon's service is consistantly better, they are correct, Verizon is truly the best talkable service out there. The bashers can start bashing this post as I am certain they will, but if you will give it a fair test as I did, you will come away with fewer dropped calls on the Verizon phone than Big Blue. I will keep my iphone and keep enjoying all it has to offer, but for a true business call I will use my verizon service. Consumer Reports ranks them #1 for several years now and sorry to say folks the proof is there.... Keep and open mind and THINK before you post some of these crazy one sided posts.... Thanks for reading!
good read. thanks for posting this! I am currently in the same predicament of decideing whether or not to purchase and keep vz.
My current plan was to infact keep VZ, replace my LG Voyager w/ a cheap lg vx5200, and buy an iPhone 3g, which would give me 2 phones til my contract w/ vz expires.
It's good to know that I m not the only 1 who would go to the extent of having 2 phone lines haha..
I'm in CA so hopefully ATT service will hold up against VZ for me so I can drop one (thought i highly doubt that will happen).
“There's a certain feeling of wading through water with this phone, as every time we went exploring the menus, we were met with a delay long enough to make us doubt our keystrokes registered.”
