The iPhone is a beautifully designed phone, true, but most of its functionality existed in mobile phones of years ago. The UI (I like the e-mail UI in particular, where you can preview the message) and the way the touchscreen is used is very slick, but when you look strictly at functionality, you have to admit, it falls short on several fronts:

-No way to access other applications without going back to the home screen
-No way to see your calendar/task items right on the front screen
-No way to touch type
-Limited to 16GB of storage. No way to expand the storage.
-I don't know that you can use it as a file storage device? If you know how, please let me know.
-I also don't know if this is entirely true, but I haven't found a way to use the iPhone as a wireless modem for my laptop. If you know how, please let me know
-No GoToMyPC or LogMeIn to access your desktop if need be
-One 2MP camera, no flash, no panorama photo ability

This is what I've discovered thus far while having both an iPhone 3G and an HTC TyTN II. In essence, I use the iPhone as a nice gadget, but the HTC as my workhorse, so, for me, Windows Mobile Professional with the combination of HTC functionality have served me extremely well, but not the iPhone.

That said, I don't know that the Android will retain or allow for the above functionality, but from what I've seen, it will have more functionality than the iPhone out of the box, but perhaps less than my TyTN II.

mrm.nyc

Comments on HTC reiterates Dream still on track for 2008

welcome troll :)

SuperSexyErik (^_^)

Comments on HTC reiterates Dream still on track for 2008

I forgot to mention other functional limits of the iPhone 3G such as:

-No scroll wheel -- HTC TyTN II has four ways to navigate through applications: touchscreen, scroll wheel, navigation pad, and keyboard. The TyTN II just gives me more options in how I use it -- I can't, on the other hand, use my iPhone well while holding an umbrella/briefcase/coffee/etc. This has been really frustrating.
-No A2DP for stereo Bluetooth
-No ability to go to or hang up the phone with one touch from within any application (i.e., no dedicated hardware phone buttons)
-No ability to use any voice recording or MP3/WAV file as a ring tone -- only with special software
-No way to skip to the next track or rewind without activating the screen
-No status indicator lights even when the screen is off -- with the iPhone, I have to turn the screen on every time I need to see even if the wireless is on.

Again, aesthetically beautiful and a great screen, but the ways and magnitude in which the iPhone falls short on every day functionality is pretty frustrating the more I use it. The irony is, Apple built its reputation on usability -- hopefully by the time they go to the next iteration of the iPhone, they'll get this all sorted,

On the other hand, Android, it seems, has all the slick UI elements of the iPhone, while providing more functionality. It looks very promising.

mrm.nyc

Comments on HTC reiterates Dream still on track for 2008

eric pwned, end of story.

Blad3

Comments on HTC reiterates Dream still on track for 2008

he'll yeah I pwned his winmo phone :D

And yes, andriod did copy OSX, you were right about that

SuperSexyErik (^_^)

Comments on HTC reiterates Dream still on track for 2008

yea im sure with shit like this, http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/08/10/our-iphone-3g-cracked-too-what-gives-apple/

its a great phone.

Blad3

Comments on HTC reiterates Dream still on track for 2008

Brick-tastic iPhones!
http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?threadID=1600894&tstart=0

Joppa

Comments on HTC reiterates Dream still on track for 2008

You want to discuss apple's fantastic finances? Why is it that the company was in a dire condition financially prior to the release of the iPod? This single item came out and took the world by storm, and saved the company from going under... and then there is the MS grant for funding iPod production.
But then you show you're true knowledge Erik... android is TOTALLY ripping off OSX. Lets take a look at OSX shall we? UNIX based right? Licenced from "The Open Group"? Nope, therefore is a "UNIX-like" system, that has a simple GUI. Funny, many linux distro's have been doing that (with the vibrent GUI) for years, but we explorers of the didgital free world can do whatever we like with our OS!
I love my UIQ phone, but I'd rather support MS or andoid then apple

linux4life
