Rumored BlackBerry Javelin specs: WiFi, GPS, awesome display
If that 3G action on the Bold is just a little too extreme for your EDGE mind to handle, fear not: the more pedestrian Javelin is looking hotter by the minute. Newly leaked spec documents reveal a phone that is fully modern in every single way but one -- its lack of HSDPA -- with a 512MHz core, 256MB of onboard storage, that gorgeous 480 x 360 display taken right out of the Bold's playbook, WiFi with UMA support, and a 3.2-megapixel cam. All told, it's looking ripe for T-Mobile as a replacement for the Curve in its HotSpot @Home lineup -- if RIM would hurry up and frickin' launch it, that is. We still haven't heard anything to make us believe it'll launch before next year as we'd been told a while back, and we're not sure how a company like RIM can justify launching a brand new 2.5G device in the year 2009, but we're sure they'll push a few if the price is right.

if this replaces the curve, and it does in fact not come with 3g, my curve will be the last blackberry i ever buy.
So if RIM releases a version of this phone with 3G six months later, then would you buy that? I mean seriously, just because *this* phone is only sporting EDGE doesn't mean RIM is not planning to put HSDPA phones into their Curve and Pearl stables, but they have not even released their first one to market. The original Pearl was 10 months after the 8700 (RIM's first EDGE product) was launched.
This product just looks like an updated Curve with (finally!) all the features that people wanted in the first Gen. It may sell to people that were desperately holding on to their 7200's but don't want to pay the additional cost of HSDPA - it's not like it will be the last BB ever made :P
3G is rather overrated in my opinion. Sure it is faster than EDGE but it is not the be all, end all feature in a device. It's not fast at all compared to the 30mbps internet that cable companies and services such as FiOS offer. I think it is more of a geeky status thing more than anything else. "Oh look. My phone can download websites 1.9 seconds faster than yours can. I win". That is a stupid mentality.
You are forgetting that most people don't want 3G on their blackberry for bragging rights, they want it for tethering. They want to combine their data card with a good handset and carry one thing around.
Both Sprint and VzW have high[er] speed Blackberries capable of tethering, and charge a nominal fee for it. Versus ~$60 additional to your handset. I think Sprint charges $15 for the tether add-on??
I want 3G, but it has absolutely nothing to do with speed. Lots of others feel the same way. I want 3G because it allows simultaneous data and voice. This means I could be talking on my bluetooth headset AND get the all critical email I need. I can't count the number of times I was on several long work related calls, and miss an important message just because stupid EDGE doesnt allow data and voice at the same time. OR .... what if I'm talking on the phone and someone asks where the closes sushi place is? On my curve I have to hang up with them because nope ... no voice and data at the same time. It is short sited on your part to say people have stupid mentality for liking 3G because you can't see past the "Speed" part.
Definitely something a T-Mobile fanboy would say.
The "stupid mentality" portion of my post was only directed at people who want 3G for the bragging. So no it wasn't short sited. Don't kid yourself. More people are interested in 3G for the speed aspect as opposed to the voice and data at the same time aspect. What do you see when they advertise 3G? You see speed. I am sure voice and data is important to many people, but it is not the primary concern on most peoples minds.
The Bold has a 2MP camera, HSDPA, and 624MHz Intel PXA270 processor, & 1GB of onboard memory. Whereas The Javelin has a 3.2MB camera, EDGE, & 256MB of onboard memory. As much as I like the camera capabilities of the Javelin, I still prefer the Bold. It's a beast. Definitely looking forward to the Bold's release. It'll be a nice transition from the HTC Kaiser (for me).
I really think I'll take this instead of the Bold...
where would you put the pricing range for this beauty??
1/2 VGA isn't awesome at all. try something above svga an i'll pay any price
@elgee02 - I don't even have T-Mobile. lol
Is there no one who is able or willing to make a phone with a screen at least as big as the iPhone's? Everyone keeps messing around with small screens, what's the deal? Why will no one step up?
Randy G- If you want a screen the size of the iPhone the only practical option is to eliminate the keyboard. For most Blackberry owners, not having a physical keypad is not an option. I have an iPhone and for me it is strictly an iPod touch with EDGE access, a speaker, and a better battery. I have probably made 2 calls on it ever. There is one reason It is not my primary phone: no keyboard. Typing SMS or email on it literally makes me angry.
shit this is not making my decision on bold or iphone easy lol. whats the difference with this and the bold??
Until I can get high quality streaming porn on a phone, 3G is worthless to me
the Javelin looks better.
And is 2.5G that much of a difference from 3G?
