That's for an unlock version. What that means to you iTards is that you can take that phone to any GSM carrier and not be held prisoner to long contracts.
And yes, it's expensive for Americans because our dollar can't buy sh*t anymore. Or pay $200, but you get what you pay for (cracks in the case, weak GPS and sluggish 3G and that's just this weeks news).
Actually, yes it IS cheaper to buy this phone. Seeing as it is that price WITHOUT a contract.
The handset would be subsidised on contracts and even then that would only be for 12 or 18 months (though we do have 2yr contracts, noone ever takes them out) here in the U.K.
Does anybody ever stop to think for one minute that unsubsidized phones are only cheaper in the long run if you decide to NOT USE IT AT ALL?? I guess you could nix data to save money, but that would be a crime on a device like this. You will be paying for service regardless of how you buy the device!!!
All you get is the peace of mind that comes from knowing you can shop around for service (as long as the phone is supported on multiple networks).
And as for everyone who immediately calls "iTard! iTard!"... SuperSexyErik didn't even mention any Apple tech. Grow up. The iPhone and the Touch Pro are both great phones.
@Jonathan It's cheaper if you decide not to go with a carrier that charges up the ying yang for data and voice. In most cases, $20 less a month in savings. Dig? And if you're familiar with SexyErik, he's an Apple fanboy who likes to stalk WinMo & Blackberry posts to interject how amazing and wonderful his cracking and sluggish 3G iPhone is. Who da hell cares? Just be happy and lurk.
I like the iPhone. I'm still debating on the Touch Pro, Android, Blackberry Thunder or iPhone for my next phone in October. At this point, the Touch Pro and Thunder has more of the business features I need. I love the iPhone's web and accelerometer games like MotionX Dice and Monkey Ball. I can like many devices without being a Fan Boy like SexyErik.

“The general size and shape certainly calls forth memories of the Centro, but while the previous version was chunky and playful, the Pixi comes off more like its distant cousin... from the year 3000.”

in other news, nobody can afford htc touch pro.
now if only a company would make a good smart phone that was affordable.. like maybe 200 dollors.

Sarcasm?! I hope so
in other words, $2200 over the life of a contract for an iphone is just what every person is looking forward to right? idiot.
oh? and is it cheaper to buy this phone?
$1000 plus 2 year contract?
THINK before you speak.. i keep having to tell you this.. are you a kid or something? you need to listen.
the iphone actually does cool stuff with its internet, unlike other phones.
its a mobile computer. so its monthly prices will go up a bit.
