Sprint pulling the plug on PCS Mail, all four users suffer nervous breakdown
PCS Mail -- a rarely used service which provided Sprint customers with an @sprintpcs.com email address -- is officially going away in 2009. The carrier has just posted up an informational site announcing that the service will be discontinued on December 31st, and there's even a few helpful links if you're struggling to understand how to move on with your life and train yourself to utilize another e-mail client. First Voice Command, now this -- anything else you're planning to shutter, Sprint?

Oh Great... i actually used the damn thing....now what am i going to do? sure transfering works but what about the stuff saved on that e-mail account ?
If you click the link above, theres information on transfering your contacts and all your emails to another service such as gmail.
Awesome post. I laughed out loud!!!!
What great timing. I used PCS Mail...yes, I admit it. I had mail copied and forwarded to it so I always knew when I had new mail in my personal POP account. Was quite handy actually. I say great timing because my iPhone replaced my Sprint phone. No turning back now.
I used it ONCE just to see be like "hey whats this....oh...fun" thats all....won't kill me...though wondering whats the deal here....
I too just recently started using my PCS mail to register an account at the NeoGAF forums (they don't allow you to register with free email accounts: gmail, yahoo, hotmail, etc.). But other than, my PCS email account was collecting dust.
I only used it for testing purposes, its not what it used to be.
At any rate - I never really used it personally, cause the Instinct DOES NOT have a way to actually check it. It only notifies its there, no link for PCS mail. Im lost?
I also didnt use it because I cant change my friggen name, and I dont want some weird number after it.
Too little too late, but if you call customer care and ask them to change your NAI username, they can.
Aww bummer. I really like the SMS they sent when an email arrived. Uses less power than any push email service. I used it for investment alerts. Worked well. *sigh*
Sure no one actually uses the email service but anyone wanting to send and recieve pop email using a sprint aircard or PDA have been using the outgoing SMTP sprintpcs.com mail server. I really hope they have something in place to transition those people off.
I used it to.... I guess you can spam it now:
transfer210@sprintpcs.com
I used my sprintpcs email account faithfully. The sprintpcs account always kept me in touch when i was away from my pc. Especially like the fact, I was able to use the cc function without setting up pop account. I'm very disappointed to learn Sprint will be terminating sprintpcs Dec 31.
The outgoing smtp.sprintpcs.com will continue to work for any Sprint device that needs it. Other PCS Mail features that people depend upon will live on until late 09. By then, Sprint figures that most phones will be fully Sprint Mobile Email capable. PCS Mail was basically a mobile web demonstration project with one huge advantage...auto-login. But Sprint always knew that they couldn't possible keep up with the yahoo's of the world feature-wise and froze it a few years ago when SME quietly became available on a handful of devices. Look for SME to keep adding features as well as become a standard app on all Sprint devices.
