HTC Touch Pro turning into the "Fuze" for AT&T?
We were personally pulling for the "Full Tilt," but WMExperts is citing a tipster that claims AT&T's rendition of the HTC Touch Pro will end up seeing the light of day as the "Fuze." That name would certainly make sense, because, you know, "Fuze" is a word that evokes ultimate productivity without sacrificing the hip style that today's young mobile professional demands. Whoa, did we just channel a marketing guru, or what? The tip goes on to say that we can expect the QWERTY slider to hit "sooner rather than later," so you might want to hold off on that imminent Tilt purchase if you can help it.

Whole thing is confusing -- I was hoping that with this latest generation of phone, you'd be buying a device named "Touch Diamond" or "Touch Pro" no matter whether it was the CDMA or GSM version, no matter whether it was direct from HTC or branded by a carrier. Obviously those who care to differentiate will still refer to the devices by their Kaiser/Hermes/Titan/Vogue/Wizard/etc. internal names, but it seems like HTC is going to hold themselves back from selling a really "iconic" device if they (or the carriers) keep giving the things twenty different fuckin' names.
RAZR has a consistent name across all CDMA and GSM carriers, iPhone is obviously consistent across all the GSM carriers shilling it. Why does this thing need to be a Touch Pro if I buy it unlocked, an MDA Vario Twenty-Seven if I buy it from T-Mobile UK, and an "ay-tee-and-tee Fuze" if I buy it from AT&T?
Consolidate this shit.
"Whoa, did we just channel a marketing guru, or what?"
Chris, I believe someone has a career outside of technoblogging when the time comes.
At least it allows for differentiation between different hardware, rather than them all being called "Touch Pro" when it has CDMA rather than GSM (handy if you're playing with Radio ROM updates).
The iPhone has only one version, so why would they call it anything else?
The AT&T Raphael does have some different hardware (might have a different keyboard layout, has a different set of buttons, no forward facing camera - same as Tilt variants of the Kaiser).
Also, since operator branded devices tend to have different software on them, (T-Mo with My Faves, AT&T with internet apps etc) it allows differentiation between the software builds.
What are the odds that this phone is being pushed out quicker then anyone can report and that it will hit consumer hands by late August, which in reality is about 2 weeks.
ahhhh! i hope sooner rather than later means like next month i need a new phone my 8525 has the white screen continuously and wont hold out much longer plus i just really want it
i have been keeping up with the xda thread where the guy bought an att version and it just sounds all around awesome
I just sold my Tilt on ebay :-D
Considering your name, your comments carry much weight. Thank you for your valuable opinion.
crap? the software has been improved the hardware is much much improved it has tons more ram now it can actually handle more than 3 programs at once and tf3d is pretty sweet
and im pretty sure there isnt a price in the article up there soo get out of here
"second hand phone"
I think the point is it to be a First hand phone.

I have an iphone, I think it's great, but I don't go defending it in any post I can Erik, you're fucking annoying,
Ever notice how the most annoying users seem to be setting their profiles to private? I guess even they are embarrassed by some of their comments.
iPhone...hhmmm...
No replaceable battery
No keyboard
No tethering (without hacking)
No MMS
Lousy camera
One app at a time
Still only half VGA (groundbreaking at the time, but not anymore)
No expandable/swappable memory
No syncing (without paying for a service)
No syncing of tasks at all (to my knowledge)
The Touch Pro is a power user phone. You can get tons of stuff done, use anyone's apps you want, have more pixels on screen, and -- heaven forbid -- tether your laptop too.
The iPhone...not so much. It's good for looking "hip" (though it's getting to where it makes you look like sheep), great for killing time, but if you want to get stuff done, look elsewhere.
it runs window mobile. all i need to know. blech.
1) no need to replace batter, if you do, you have a sucky phone
2) no keyboard? yeah thats the point.. keyboards are so 90's, steve jobs really hit the nail on this one
3) mms? no nessecary, it supports e-mail
4) Camera is 2.0 mp. dam nice :)
5) no need for more memory, iphone comes with memory! so stop spending all that money on extra stuff cuz its all inside the iphone.
6) syncing of tasks is possible.. idiot.
ok here are the reasons the iphone will outsell and beat any other phone
-Iphone runs a full Operating system, not a phone system, its a computer
-it has an application store built right in!! no more searching the internet for half-ass apps. now they are all professionally made.
-next month it will support push for all applications, sync wirelessly (HOPEFULLY!!) As well as copy/paste + turn by turn gps. i could go on but it would take up pages.
This is no longer just a phone, its a computer. all it needs is some better blue-tooth in the next model and it will be a tablet.
Also:
# Desktop-class applications, including calendar, rich HTML email, full-featured address book and Safari web browser
# Secure push email and over-the-air contacts and calendar through support for Microsoft Exchange ActiveSync.
# View Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint, PDF, JPEG, and iWork email attachments
# Remote wipe and enforced security and password policies for IT administrators to securely manage iPhones containing confidential company information.
# Built-in Cisco IPSec VPN for the highest level of IP-based encryption for transmission of sensitive company information.
# WPA2 Enterprise with 802.1X authentication for safe access to company resources.
# Configuration Profiles for the remote configuration and installation of your company's passcode policies, VPN, email, and wireless network settings onto iPhones.
# Enterprises can easily build their own in-house applications to meet distinct business needs.
# The App Store makes it easy to download commercial applications directly to iPhone 3G wirelessly.
# Applications can utilize iPhone technology including the Multi-Touch display, the accelerometer, wireless connectivity, and GPS.
you people hating on the iphone, im gonna say this to you, you dont need it, but its amazing to have. the 3g iphone has sold over 3 million in the first month.. its app store is a huge success people realize its capabilities and are using them. So stop hating for a moment and take into consideration apple's success, because its for a reason.
OK, let me settle this. You are all a bunch of babies with your iPhone vs. Windows mobile crap. The Touch Pro is for power users who plan to get the most out of their device including laptop tethering, unlimited software, MMS, heavy use requiring a replaceable battery, word processing, spreadsheets, power point presentations, and 3G internet access that actually works at 3G speeds... The iphone is for people who just want to look cool and have the newest most popular and sexy toy even if it's a piece of *hi%!
"Iphone runs a full Operating system"
So do Windows Mobile phones. And Symbian phones. And Linux phones. And Blackberries.
"mms? no nessecary, it supports e-mail"
And what about people you might like to send MMS messages to who /don't/ have e-mail? Wait, wait, let me guess, they should get an iPhone? Where have I heard that before.
"no need to replace battery"
"Camera is 2.0 mp. dam nice :)"
"no need for more memory"
These statements prove that you are not human -- you clearly are a bot, no doubt one of many, that is simply programmed to quote iPhone features and claim that they are all perfect with no room for improvement.
YOU FAIL. :-)

is this your idea of success fuck head?
At least it has a real keyboard instead of the iPhone's tap and pray POS keyboard. I was so close to buying one but typing was a royal bitch.
Not to mention all the other things it does better than the iPhone and that the iPhone doesn't do.
Oh, and about your battery comment. If you're a businessperson that spends a lot of the day away from a power outlet and you're constantly using 3G for push e-mail and accessing corporate internet carrying a spare can be useful, or if the battery just dies of heavy usage like all Li-ion batteries do.
Newsflash: The iPhone isn't the center of the the cellular world.
oh, and blad3, your post is irrelevant,
first reason: only 2% are experiencing this.
second: apple is to fix it in sept. software update.
its amusing that you would use any excuse to put down the iphone, no matter how little the conflict, it shows that your too proud to leave behind your old-and-outdated windows mobile. which is fine, do that, but the rest of us shouldnt have to suffer, we will move on to better software. the iphone is simply years ahead of other mobile phones.
ohhh and another funny thing, i tagged your comment for being so naive, and using such bad language :) so good luck making a new account (:
little upset that you're other account got banned there erik? yeah i would be upset too. try not making childish posts and acting like 2-3% isn't a large number when it actually is. learn to deal with the crappy network your crappy phone was placed on.
i love how superdumbasserik aka i love iphone will comment on everything except those articles bashing his beloved handset.
http://www.engadgetmobile.com/2008/08/14/iphone-3g-reception-woes-unfixable-maybe-maybe-not/
MMS for "power users"!!!! LOL...
Everyone fighting tells me this: When iPhone fanboys are seeing this thing, they're going into defensive mode. Scared that something may be better than their precious POS.
iPhone users, accept the fact that yes, you did waste your money.
Man would all the iphone lovers please post on the "MANY" iphone articles that engadget has. Sure the iphone is a nice phone but why do you fans of it have to comment on every iphone competitor article bashing it. You aren't preaching the gospel to woo us away from other products we may be interested in. If you love your iphone so much good for you, now have a coke and a smile and STFU about it already.
wow, you'd think that after your other account got banned you would have learned your lesson by now.
lmao @ the coke and a smile...
i think i'm the only fan of the Victor/Diamond... i just hope that this isn't mortgage priced... not to say it isn't worth it but i'll be missing out on a dope Sprint phone....
I am excited for this new winmo phone. The feature set looks wonderful.
I am looking to replace my first gen iphone and I'm looking at the 3G iphone and all the competitors. This phone looks really nice and the specs are good too.
My only question is this: how well would WinMo sync with a Mac? I'm buying a new lappy in a few months and it will most likely be an Apple computer.
I've been holding out for months, and this might just be my next phone. I'm in the medical field and rely on certain software programs that only run off WM or Palm OS's. Irregardless of the OS I would never buy a phone w/ touch-screen only (no qwerty), and the iphone is no exception.
God, I love all these apple fanboys. i totally agree with fam113. Congratulations, you bought the new "razor" that everyone has to have. I have nothing against iphone users, just the ones that won't shut up about them.
We should give all you fuckers your own little country/island so that the rest of us don't have to hear about your little toy.
The iPhone is great...it's keeping me busy in the time between the Tilt (R.I.P.) and the soon to be mine, Touch Pro or Fuze, or whatever they decide to call it.
The Touch Pro looks great. I'm trying to decide between this and the XPERIA X1.
Does anyone know if the HTC Touch Pro will be sold or available through US Cellular? I know they sell the HTC 6800, which this phone is replacing (daughter couldn't wait and bought the 6800 2 days ago). I AM waiting but want to be with US Cellular. I can buy an unlocked version, but how does that work? Do you just take it to US Cellular and sign up for their data plan in addition to the regular plan I now have with an old LG phone (am out of contract with them so am eligible for new phone)? Sorry, I am a newbie to all this, but would appreciate any help. I do really like the looks of this new phone and know it has been released as it's for sale in various places online already. Hope to hear a reply from someone. Thank you.
Eligible for an AT&T device upgrade in...2 hours and 12 minutes. I just wish this phone were ready for me to purchase :-P
Wow, I can't wait. This is going to be an awesome phone and I've been waiting for something like this every since the iPhone came out. I have owned the TCTY and the TCTY II and this is going to be far better than the AT&T Tilt (TCTYII)! For a phone this technologically advanced, $900 doesn't sound that bad. I mean when I got my tilt I paid like $650 for it, and the Fuze (Touch Pro) is far superior!
purchasing the icraphone was one of the biggest mistakes i ever made in life.. hmmmm htc pro vs bb bold vs htc dream...i'm confused... any suggestions..? grenadianprince@gmail.com
Does anyone have insight (or inside info) as to the release date for the Touch Pro or "Fuze" on AT&T? I was surprised to see that Sprint announced it first, as there was so much buzz on the blogosphere about AT&T. It worries me that Sprint might have an exclusivity lasting several months. I've been eligible for an upgrade since the beginning of August and have been waiting patiently for the next generation of WM-enabled smart phones to appear. On a related note, does anyone know of additional WM smartphones scheduled to arrive at AT&T in the near future?
I just returned my second defective AT&T Tilt phone, sadly. Now I'm in holding mode, waiting for the Fuze. I narrowed down my choices to the Tilt because it was the only AT&T phone I could find with free Wi-Fi, that is, no requirement for buying an AT&T data plan in order to use the browser to access a Wi-Fi hotspot. The Tilt did the trick while it was working, but both of my Tilts were plagued with power problems. I hope the Fuze handles Wi-Fi like the Tilt, because if it turns out to be another AT&T Wi-Fi / data plan phone (like the Blackberry Pearl and the iPhone), I'm outta here!
